This role provides services for a branch of the U.S. Navy that is the premier provider of ocean transportation to the Department of Defense.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing verbatim transcription services of testimony during various legal proceedings.
- Handling complex litigations and legal proceedings, ensuring discretion, confidentiality, and urgency.
- Responsible for real-time transcription of depositions and arbitrations.
- Collaborating with team members, including client representatives and management.
- Attending depositions and other proceedings (online/in-person) that require written transcripts.
- Providing rough drafts of transcripts to counsel and parties involved, when requested.
- Maintaining exhibits during depositions as needed.
- Partnering with scopists and proofreaders for transcript completion.
- Preparing accurate final transcripts per client's request.
- Transcribing recorded proceedings in accordance with established formats.
Qualifications:
- At least Two (02) Years of experience in court reporting and hold certification as a National Court Reports Association (NCRA) Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) or equivalent.
- Knowledge of legal and medical terminology, correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and basic mathematics.
- Compliance with professional standards of the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA).
- Must be able to use a computer to communicate via email; and proficient in Microsoft Office Products.
- Must have consecutive employment in a position with comparable responsibilities within the past five (5) years.
Education and Experience:
- Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalency and a minimum of Two (02) Years of experience in court reporting.
- Completion of required apprentice and internship training in court reporting is necessary.
Licensing Requirements:
- Professional certification as a Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) or equivalent.
- U.S. Citizenship Required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Travel: Occasional travel may be required to attend meetings, events, or training requirements.
Location: Work shall be conducted within 50 miles radius of Norfolk, Virginia.
Other Requirements:
- Understanding and proficiency with business tools and technology, including Microsoft Office.
- Commitment to work with diverse teams to solve challenges.
