Proseal UK Ltd is a company that designs and manufactures high quality tray sealing and conveying systems for the food industry and has manufacturing facilities in the UK, North America, and Australia. Having been established for over 20 years, demand for the Proseal product is growing and we are responsible for developing many plastic-based alternatives for preserving the life of and carrying food safely. Formed in 1998, Proseal has become the leading manufacturer of tray sealing machinery and tooling in the UK and is now also recognized as a major force internationally.

Shift Pattern/Working Hours: Monday to Friday, with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break each day. A total of 40 hours per week.

Your new role: We are looking for an experienced and proactive Manufacturing Engineer to join our Engineering and Manufacturing team. This role will focus on the introduction of new components and processes into production, with a particular emphasis on machining stainless steel components. The successful candidate will play a key role in defining robust manufacturing methods, improving and updating existing CNC tooling, and ensuring new products are introduced safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring the safety and productivity of all employees and report any shortcomings and sponsoring the use of BBSO (Behaviour-based safety observation) and near miss reporting.
  • Actively promote a safe working environment ensuring all staff feel empowered to report and act, in driving a safety culture and to specifically adopt the stop work authority process.
  • Develop and optimise CNC programs offline using CAM software (e.g., FeatureCAM, Mastercam, Siemens NX, Fusion 360, or similar).
  • Interpret engineering drawings, 3D models, and technical specifications to generate accurate toolpaths.
  • Operate machines when required, whether this is to run trials, or assist with production during busy periods.
  • Lead the manufacturing introduction of new components, from design release through to full production (NPI).
  • Define and document manufacturing processes, machining strategies, and standard methods for new and existing components.
  • Work closely with Design Engineering to ensure designs are optimised for manufacture, particularly for stainless steel components.
  • Specify, develop, and update CNC tooling, fixtures, and workholding solutions to improve quality, repeatability, and cycle time.
  • Collaborate with CNC Programmers and Machinists to validate machining strategies and improve existing processes.
  • Support the continuous improvement of tooling, cutting parameters, and machining methods on CNC machines.
  • Carry out process capability studies and support first-off and production sign-off activities.
  • Investigate and resolve manufacturing issues, including scrap, quality issues, and machining inefficiencies.
  • Maintain and update manufacturing documentation, including routings, work instructions, and tooling lists.
  • Provide technical support to production teams during trials, process changes, and problem-solving activities.
  • To have a good understanding of the Proseal product range keeping up to date with modifications and improvements as they are developed.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a Manufacturing Engineering role within a precision or high-spec manufacturing environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of CNC machining processes, tooling, and cutting strategies.
  • Demonstrated experience machining stainless steel components.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and 3D CAD models.
  • Practical understanding of fixturing, workholding, and tool selection.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Comfortable working across office and shop floor environments.
  • Proficiency in CAM software and understanding of G-code and CNC machine operations.
  • Strong knowledge of machining principles, materials, and tooling.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in an engineering role, with a focus on the manufacture of stainless steel components.
  • Experience supporting NPI (New Product Introduction) in a machining environment.

Working Conditions:

  • Combination of office-based work and regular time spent on the shop floor.
  • Occasional requirement to support trials or production activities on CNC machines.
  • Standard working hours with flexibility based on project requirements.
