Location: Edinburgh or Glasgow

I’m currently working exclusively with a Planning Consultancy who are looking to make a senior hire in one of their Scottish offices, Glasgow or Edinburgh, delivering projects across commercial, industrial, retail, residential, co-living and strategic land and more. This is a senior leadership opportunity within an entrepreneurial environment, offering real influence over strategy, client development, and team growth. The role would suit an experienced planning professional who combines strong technical capability with commercial awareness and the ability to help shape a growing regional offering.

The Role

  • Provide senior leadership across a diverse planning portfolio including commercial, mixed-use, residential, retail, industrial, infrastructure, and strategic land projects
  • Support and influence the growth strategy for the Edinburgh office alongside senior stakeholders in Glasgow and the wider business
  • Build, maintain, and expand a strong client network, contributing to work winning and long-term relationships
  • Mentor and support junior and mid-level planners as the team evolves
  • Play an active role in shaping service lines and future strategic hires as the business grows

About You

  • Operating at Director, Associate Director, or Partner level (or ready to make that step)
  • Strong background in private‑sector planning consultancy (public‑sector experience also considered)
  • Demonstrated commercial acumen with the ability to win work or grow accounts
  • Broad planning experience across multiple asset classes rather than a single niche
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with an interest in helping shape and grow a regional team

The Environment

  • A well‑established consultancy with a national client base that “punches above its weight”
  • Partner‑led, collaborative, and non‑corporate culture despite working with major developers and landowners
  • Relaxed working environment where people are trusted, supported, and not pigeon‑holed
  • Clear and realistic routes to long‑term progression and partnership for high performers
