Who We’re Looking For

  • EHS professional with previous experience in an EHS management role, ideally in a fast‑paced manufacturing environment (food manufacturing preferred).
  • Comfortable working at site leadership level, influencing stakeholders and embedding safe working practices.
  • Continuous improvement mindset, with experience of world‑class manufacturing systems/processes (e.g., Lean / Six Sigma).

The role

As EHS Manager, you’ll lead the site’s safety and environmental agenda—setting standards, coaching teams, ensuring legal compliance and responding effectively to incidents and emergencies. You’ll partner with leaders across the factory to drive sustainable improvements in safety performance and culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as an integral member of the site operations leadership team, collaborating to establish procedures and embed safe working practices.
  • Provide advice, support and innovative solutions for safety and environmental problem-solving.
  • Develop, implement and keep HSE procedures up to date in line with legislation, company directives and ISO requirements.
  • Report clearly on compliance and progress against site H&S and environmental objectives and KPIs.
  • Provide operational support for the implementation and maintenance of ISO 45001.
  • Implement and track practical KPIs; analyse trends to identify and act on opportunities that improve safety, quality and performance.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through effective prevention, awareness activity and safe working practice improvements.
  • Audit, maintain and review control measures to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Deliver relevant training, education and communication; act as the site subject matter expert for HSE.
  • Coordinate incident investigations (including near misses, accidents and RIDDOR), ensuring robust root‑cause analysis and corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Carry out site inspections, safety tours and audits; support line management to implement corrective actions.
  • Manage the site HSE function and supporting groups (e.g., first aid team, H&S reps and H&S committee).

What You’ll Bring

  • NEBOSH General Certificate (NEBOSH Diploma / CMIOSH highly advantageous).
  • 5+ years’ leadership experience in a fast‑moving manufacturing environment (food manufacturing preferred).
  • Strong experience with risk assessments, PUWER, auditing and safety culture development.
  • Proven understanding of legal systems, regulatory enforcement processes and relevant UK HSE legislation.
  • Working knowledge of safety/environmental management systems (OHSAS 18001, ISO 45001, ISO 14001 / EMAS).
  • Experience writing HSE policies and supporting SOP creation for shop floor activities.
  • Ability to assess current vs. future state and implement metrics to track improvement.
