We are looking for a passionate Sustainability expert to spearhead our agenda to be a truly responsible business. The Person
This person will have played a key role in building and implementing sustainability strategies and they will be an authentic champion for demonstrating that business can be both commercially successful and a force for good. They will be experienced in sustainable practices, able to engage, influence and inspire those around them to keep people and planet in mind. The right person will be hungry to step up and take ownership of a full sustainability agenda and have the confidence and capability to be both the strategic and day-to-day operational lead for our business – doing the doing, as well as the thinking. This person will need to be a positive internal and external disruptor in the sustainability space, someone who can build strong relationships across cross-functional teams and work collaboratively to challenge the business to do better.
The Role
This role will oversee and implement WARP’s end-to-end sustainability agenda. Leading on procedures, policies and reporting, whilst working with the wider WARP team to build and implement our sustainability strategy and BCorp certification – this role has a broad and exciting remit. This role will focus heavily on our manufacturing site in Nuneaton and our Supply Chain, working closely with our Innovation, Supply Chain and Procurement teams to reduce our Scope 3 emissions, lead on responsible sourcing, carbon footprinting, sustainable packaging initiatives and sustainability improvements at our factory.
Responsibilities
- Own WARP’s sustainability strategy and drive through to implementation.
- Develop and maintain sustainability procedures and policies, supporting the team to choose sustainable solutions and working practices.
- Set, track and report sustainability KPIs, leading on the creation of the PROPER and Eat Real annual Impact Report.
- Lead the B Corp certification and verification process, including involvement with B Lab UK, to ensure that WARP become and remain a certified B Corp.
- Track supplier sustainability progress, working collaboratively with our Procurement and Technical functions to improve WARP’s supplier management progress for sustainability.
- Work with our Procurement team to develop WARP’s responsible sourcing programme for all key WARP ingredients working, where necessary, with external experts and specialist partners in agroecology, low-carbon farming and regenerative agriculture.
- Work with our external carbon consultants to deliver WARP’s annual carbon footprint. Lead a team to gather the correct data and implement carbon action plans to hit annual carbon reduction targets.
- Work with our Factory team to create a leading sustainable snacking site, providing expertise in sustainable manufacturing to hit our operational Net Zero targets.
- Keep up-to-date with all external reporting requirements (e.g. ESOS, SECR, Modern Slavery Statement), relevant changes in environmental law, legislation, practices and thought leadership.
- Support brand marketing teams with key external sustainability messages and partnerships.
Requirements
- Travel once a week to our Nuneaton Manufacturing site.
- Depth of experience in delivering sustainability strategies.
- A strong understanding of how to build an end-to-end sustainability strategy with demonstrable experience of having played a key role in strategy creation.
- Experience managing multiple cross-functional social and environmental projects.
- A thorough understanding of Scope 3 emissions, sustainable agriculture, climate change and the carbon contributions of the food industry.
- Understanding and/or experience of delivering B Corp certifications in-house or as a consultant.
- Ideal, but not essential: Sound awareness of organisational carbon footprinting and product/supply chain carbon life cycle assessment.
- Ideal, but not essential: A degree or masters in corporate sustainability, environmental science or other relevant discipline.
