We’re delighted to be recruiting a Payroll Manager vacancy on behalf of a well‑established accountancy practice based in Oakham. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Payroll Manager to manage a small team, assist team members with payroll queries, and take ownership of a varied client portfolio while enhancing the overall quality of payroll service delivery.

- Salary: £38,000 – £45,000
- 37.5 hours per week (hybrid working – 2 days from home, 3 days office)

Duties and responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end payroll processing across a portfolio of clients, covering weekly and monthly payrolls
- Lead and develop a small payroll team, including supporting team members with payroll queries and allocating workloads
- Take ownership of the quality of payroll services provided to clients, acting as a key escalation point for complex queries
- Ensure accurate calculation of salaries, statutory payments, and timely submission of RTI returns to HMRC
- Maintain full compliance with UK payroll legislation, HMRC requirements and pension regulations
- Review and refine payroll processes, identifying efficiencies, improvements, and opportunities for upselling additional services
- Build strong relationships with clients, consulting with HMRC, pension providers, HR, and Finance teams
Required skills and experience
- Proven experience in a Payroll Manager role within an accountancy practice environment
- Strong knowledge of UK PAYE, NIC, RTI submissions and auto-enrolment pension schemes
- Experience managing payrolls for organisations ranging from 20 to 500+ employees
- Previous team leadership or supervisory experience within a payroll function
- Familiarity with payroll systems such as Sage, ADP, IRIS or similar
- Experience managing multiple payroll frequencies and client relationships
- CIPP qualification or equivalent payroll/finance experience would be advantageous
