Staff Software Engineer - AI Agents

Salary: £58,000 - 98,000 per year

Requirements:

• We require the ability to work on-site four days per week at our Belfast office.
• We require extensive experience designing, developing, and supporting applications in a microservices cloud environment.
• We are looking for a strong personal interest in AI agents, including hands-on experience with agent frameworks or LLM SDKs such as LangGraph, OpenAI/Anthropic Agents SDK, MCP, LangChain, or similar.
• We require prior experience taking agentic or LLM-based systems to production, including eval, observability, and rollback considerations.
• We require deep experience with Python; TypeScript/Node is a plus.
• We value hands‑on work with agent frameworks and eval tooling.
• We require a track record of debugging distributed systems from traces; experience with OpenTelemetrys GenAI semantic conventions is a plus.
• We require cloud‑native development experience, automating deployments, and familiarity with container systems; AWS experience is a plus.
• We require excellent time management skills and comfort coordinating work with colleagues in the US and around the globe.
• We require excellent communication and leadership skills, including driving architectural conversations across teams, managing stakeholders, and mentoring engineers.
• We require a proactive get‑it‑done attitude and willingness to move forward through uncertainty.
• We require readiness to participate in an on‑call rotation during times coordinated with US‑based colleagues.
• We require a BSc or MSc in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Beneficial experience includes AI‑driven development tools such as Claude Code or Codex and agentic communication protocols such as A2A or MCP.
• Large‑scale event processing is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities:

• We drive the architecture of the Satori platform as it rapidly scales.
• We support fellow product engineers who protect business‑critical communications for Fortune 100 customers 24/7/365.
• We design the agent runtimes and SDKs that product teams build on.
• We define what release‑ready means at Proofpoint, including eval suites, safety checks, telemetry, and AuthX that gate every rollout.
• We shape how mission‑critical agentic software ships across the company through primitives such as prompt management and observability.
• We partner with product tech leads to turn one‑off integrations into reusable platform capabilities.
• We ship code and own production‑grade services.
