Chemical Manufacturing Engineer

Hands‑on manufacturing. Real responsibility. Accelerated learning.

Why this role exists

Promethean is scaling a new class of materials — metal‑organic frameworks (MOFs) — that can fundamentally change how the world captures carbon and uses energy.

That meansreal manufacturing challenges, not theoretical ones:

  • Pilot plants and early‑stage production facilities
  • Safety‑critical chemical processes
  • New equipment, new methods, and systems being built from the ground up

We’re looking for aManufacturing Engineerwho wants to be close to real operations and develop quickly by working on problems that genuinely matter.

Who this role is best suited to

This role is intended for anearly‑career engineer who has already had some exposure to real engineering environmentsand is now looking to build deeper capability in manufacturing.

You’re likely to be a strong fit if you:

  • Have spent time inmanufacturing, process, pilot plant, laboratory, or industrial settings (for example through placements, internships, a year in industry, or an early graduate role)
  • Want to move closer toreal equipment, processes, and production, rather than staying purely theoretical
  • Learn best bydoing and reflecting, especially in practical, hands‑on environments
  • Are looking for a role that will stretch you beyond a highly structured graduate programme

This role assumes some familiarity with how real engineering environments work and is designed for candidates ready to build on that foundation.

What you’ll actually be doing

You’ll work across Promethean’s pilot‑scale manufacturing facilities, supporting the transition from R&D into scalable operations. Over time, you’ll take ownership of defined systems and improvements.

Your work will include:

  • Operating and improving pilot‑scale manufacturing processes
  • Applying and learningprocess safety, SOPs, and risk assessments
  • Supporting the design, installation, and commissioning of equipment
  • Investigating plant issues and contributing to practical solutions
  • Helping build the manufacturing systems needed for scale‑up
  • This is asite‑based, hands‑on engineering role. It is not desk‑only and not research‑only.

What we’re looking for

We’re less concerned with ticking boxes and more interested inrelevant experience, curiosity, and learning mindset.

You’ll likely have:

  • A degree in chemical engineering (or similar)
  • 2 years + experience in industrial, manufacturing, or operational environments
  • Comfort working around real equipment and safety‑critical processes

You just have full, unrestricted right to work in the UK.

Why this is a strong early‑career move

  • Broad exposure acrossoperations, safety, equipment, and continuous improvement
  • First‑hand experience ofscaling new technology
  • Faster development than a narrow graduate scheme
  • Support and mentoring alongside meaningful responsibility
  • After a year, success looks like this:
  • You’re independently owning parts of the manufacturing operation and contributing to safer, more reliable production — while building skills that clearly differentiate you as a manufacturing engineer.
