Hands-on manufacturing. Real responsibility. Accelerated learning.

Promethean is scaling a new class of materials — metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) — that can fundamentally change how the world captures carbon and uses energy. That means real manufacturing challenges, not theoretical ones:

  • Pilot plants and early-stage production facilities
  • Safety-critical chemical processes
  • New equipment, new methods, and systems being built from the ground up

We’re looking for a Chemical Engineer who wants to be close to real operations and develop quickly by working on problems that genuinely matter.

This role is intended for a Graduate Chemical Engineer who has had 2+ years exposure to real engineering environments and is now looking to build deeper capability in manufacturing. This role assumes some familiarity with how real engineering environments work and is designed for candidates ready to build on that foundation.

You’ll work across Promethean’s pilot-scale manufacturing facilities, supporting the transition from R&D into scalable operations. Over time, you’ll take ownership of defined systems and improvements. Your work will include:

  • Operating and improving pilot-scale manufacturing processes
  • Applying and learning process safety, SOPs, and risk assessments
  • Supporting the design, installation, and commissioning of equipment
  • Investigating plant issues and contributing to practical solutions
  • Helping build the manufacturing systems needed for scale-up

This is a site-based, hands-on engineering role. It is not desk-only and not research-only.

We’re less concerned with ticking boxes and more interested in relevant experience, curiosity, and learning mindset. You’ll likely have:

  • A degree in chemical engineering (or similar)
  • 2 years + experience in industrial, manufacturing, or operational environments
  • Comfort working around real equipment and safety-critical processes

You must be currently based in the UK and have full, unrestricted right to work in the UK. We do not have a visa sponsorship license so are unable to sponsor applicants.

Why this is a strong early-career move:

  • Broad exposure across operations, safety, equipment, and continuous improvement
  • First-hand experience of scaling new technology
  • Faster development than a narrow graduate scheme
  • Support and mentoring alongside meaningful responsibility

After a year, success looks like this:

You’re independently owning parts of the chemical manufacturing operation and contributing to safer, more reliable production — while building skills that clearly differentiate you as a Chemical Engineer.

About Promethean:

We’re a fast-moving scale-up focused on decarbonisation, but we hire based on the work and the learning opportunity, not slogans. If you’re motivated by doing meaningful engineering in the real world, you’ll feel at home here.

Interested? Apply if this role aligns with what you want to learn and do next, and if you’re keen to build on the experience you already have in practical engineering environments.

Benefits:

As a growing small-scale-up, we think it is critical to have a competitive ‘total compensation’ philosophy allowing us to attract and retain the very best talent for our team. Our current benefits package includes:

  • Competitive salaries
  • Annual performance-based bonus
  • Flexible approach to working

  • Group life insurance
