The Programme
We are currently supporting workforce planning for an anticipated Elective Theatre Insourcing Programme designed to increase elective surgical capacity within an established NHS service.
You will become part of a structured, clinically governed insourcing programme, working alongside experienced multidisciplinary teams to deliver planned elective operating lists while supporting service recovery and improving patient access.
We are seeking experienced Consultant Anaesthetists with current or recent NHS consultant practice who are interested in supporting regular programme-based elective theatre activity.
The programme is expected to support a range of elective operating lists across multiple surgical specialties.

- Programme: Elective Theatre Insourcing
- Location: Greater London
- Schedule: Weekday elective operating lists, including half-day and full-day sessions
- Anticipated Start: September 2026
- Programme Duration: Initial mobilisation with ongoing opportunities subject to service requirements
- Engagement: Regular programme sessions
- Payroll: Monthly
- Additional Information: Structured elective operating lists delivered within an established NHS service
What You'll Be Doing
- Delivering consultant-led anaesthetic care across planned elective operating lists
- Undertaking pre-operative anaesthetic assessment where required
- Providing safe intra-operative anaesthetic management
- Supporting immediate post-operative care and clinical handover
- Working within agreed clinical pathways, governance standards and local operational procedures
- Collaborating closely with surgeons, theatre teams and the wider multidisciplinary team
- Maintaining accurate clinical documentation and patient records
- Supporting efficient theatre utilisation while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety and clinical care
What We're Looking For
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Anaesthesia
- Post-CCT Consultant Anaesthetist status
- Current or recent NHS Consultant practice
- Appropriate professional indemnity
- Strong communication, multidisciplinary team working and professional standards
- Ability to work within structured, session-based clinical delivery models
- Valid Right to Work in the UK (please note we do not offer visa sponsorship)
Desirable Experience
We would particularly like to hear from consultants with experience supporting elective operating lists across one or more of the following specialties:
- General Surgery
- Gynaecology
- Urology
- Trauma & Orthopaedics
Consultants with regular weekday availability throughout the proposed programme are particularly encouraged to apply.
