Ready to take the next step into engineering leadership and experience one of the most distinctive places to live and work in Scotland? This is a brilliant opportunity for an experienced hands-on Engineer or Engineering Supervisor who’s looking for their first management role within a supportive, values-driven aquaculture business. With accommodation available and relocation support, this role is ideal for someone already based on the island, anyone looking to work away from home on a long-term basis, or someone ready to make a permanent move to the Outer Hebrides.
Why Uist? A lifestyle you won’t find anywhere else. Living and working on Uist offers a unique balance of wide horizons, quiet beaches, close-knit communities and a slower, more grounded pace of life. It’s a place where you can finish a shift and be walking a coastline, watching wildlife or enjoying island calm within minutes. For the right person, it’s not only a job — it’s a lifestyle shift.
About the Role: Based on a small site in Uist, you’ll oversee day-to-day maintenance, support a team sized at 1.5 FTE, and keep essential equipment running safely and efficiently. It’s a varied, practical role with real ownership — without the complexity or pressure of a large-scale engineering environment.
What you’ll be doing:
- Carrying out and planning maintenance across site equipment, vehicles, vessels and lifting systems
- Ensuring safe, compliant operations in line with company, MCA and Health & Safety standards
- Supporting and developing a small engineering team, including training, planning and out-of-hours cover
- Managing maintenance records, reporting and procurement for essential parts and equipment
- Working closely with production, biology and environmental teams to keep operations running smoothly
- Upholding environmental, fish-welfare and hygiene standards across all engineering activity
This is a hands-on role where you’ll be involved in the work as much as leading it — ideal for someone who enjoys variety and practical problem-solving.
What we’re looking for:
- A qualified mechanical engineer with strong practical skills
- Experience as a Senior Engineer, Lead Engineer or Supervisor
- Someone ready to step confidently into their first management role
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise
- A clear communicator who works well across teams
- A proactive, steady problem-solver
What’s on offer:
- Negotiable salary aligned to the scale of the site
- Enhanced overtime rates: 1.5x weekdays, 1.75x weekends
- Accommodation available + relocation support
- A meaningful role in a respected aquaculture business
- A lifestyle opportunity in one of the most distinctive locations in the Highlands
