Caretaker - School, Birmingham (B9 5QA)
Location: At a School, B9 5QA
Pay Rate: £13.00 per hour PAYE
Contract: Until 30th November 2026 (with potential extension)
Hours: 8 hours per day, shift pattern between 6:00am and 7:00pm, Monday to Friday. Overtime and weekend work may be available.
Proman Recruitment is currently looking for a Caretaker to work at a School in Birmingham (B9 5QA). This is an excellent opportunity for a reliable and proactive individual with caretaking, facilities, maintenance, or site support experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Opening and closing school buildings, ensuring site security at all times
- Conducting daily site inspections and reporting defects via the helpdesk
- Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and minor repairs
- General caretaking duties including porterage, litter picking, cleaning, and basic maintenance
- Preparing buildings and outdoor areas for school activities and seasonal changes
- Managing site stock, materials, and equipment
- Ensuring timely completion and closure of maintenance jobs
- Supporting subcontractors and mobile technical teams on site
- Conducting statutory compliance checks, including fire alarm testing and emergency lighting inspections
- Responding to emergency situations and supporting fire evacuations when required
- Maintaining accurate records and compliance documentation
- Building positive relationships with school staff and clients
- Supporting facilities management meetings and site reporting requirements
- Supervising third-party activities such as lettings and after-school clubs
Requirements:
- Enhanced DBS (required)
- Previous caretaking, maintenance, facilities, or building services experience desirable
- Good understanding of Health & Safety procedures
- Ability to carry out basic maintenance and repair tasks
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- Must provide own dark workwear and safety boots
- Flexible approach to overtime and occasional weekend working
