About Projective

Projective is a fast-growing international engineering consultancy specialising in utilities, process engineering, and energy solutions. We partner with global manufacturers to deliver sustainable, innovative, and future-ready engineering solutions. Our Head Office is in Fleet, Hampshire (UK), with additional offices in the USA and Italy. This role can be based in either Fleet or Bologna, with travel to client sites in the UK, Italy, and internationally as required.

The Opportunity

If you are an early-career Mechanical, Chemical, or Energy Engineer with a strong interest in industrial utilities and sustainability, this is an excellent opportunity to build your career within a growing international engineering consultancy. Following continued success and international expansion, Projective has strengthened its presence across the UK, Italy, and the USA. We are now seeking an ambitious Mechanical Project Engineer to support the design and delivery of utilities, process, and energy projects across complex industrial manufacturing environments. This is a client-facing role, offering hands-on exposure to cutting-edge low and zero-carbon technologies and the opportunity to work with global manufacturing clients.

The Role

As a Mechanical Project Engineer, you will support the engineering design, analysis, and delivery of utilities and process projects across industrial sites in the UK, Italy, and internationally. A significant proportion of your work will focus on integrating energy-efficient and decarbonisation solutions into established manufacturing facilities. You will work closely with senior engineers and project managers, contributing to technical design, calculations, documentation, and site-based project activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the design and delivery of industrial utilities and process engineering projects.
  • Develop and review Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Perform engineering calculations, including energy and mass balances, equipment sizing, and pressure system design.
  • Select and specify mechanical and process equipment such as pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, vessels, refrigeration, and compressed gas systems.
  • Assist with the design and assessment of pressure systems, including pressure relief requirements.
  • Support the integration of low and zero-carbon technologies into existing industrial facilities.
  • Prepare high-quality technical reports, calculations, and client presentations.
  • Manage allocated tasks independently, ensuring delivery to agreed deadlines and budgets.
  • Support site activities and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams and clients.

Experience & Skills

  • 1–3 years’ experience in an industrial manufacturing, engineering design, energy, or sustainability environment.
  • Understanding of industrial process systems, including pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, vessels, refrigeration, and compressed gases.
  • Ability to analyse existing systems and identify practical, energy-efficient improvement opportunities.
  • Experience producing or supporting the development of PFDs and P&IDs.
  • Competence in equipment sizing and selection.
  • Knowledge of pressure systems and pressure relief design principles.
  • Drafting experience using AutoCAD 2D or SolidWorks.
  • Awareness of UK and/or EU legislation relating to mechanical and process system design.
  • Strong written communication skills with experience producing professional reports and presentations.
  • Genuine interest in sustainability, energy efficiency, and decarbonisation.
  • Proactive, solutions-focused approach with a desire to develop technically and professionally.

Qualifications & Additional Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Energy, or related Engineering discipline (minimum 2:1 or equivalent).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Right to work in either the UK or Italy, depending on preferred location.
  • Full driving licence and access to a car.
  • Italian language skills are beneficial for Italy-based candidates.
  • Knowledge of German and/or experience in the pharmaceutical sector is advantageous but not essential.

What We Offer

  • A supportive and professional environment focused on technical excellence and career development.
  • Exposure to a diverse range of high-profile international clients and industrial projects.
  • Structured mentoring and training from experienced engineers.
  • Paid membership of a relevant professional institution.
  • Competitive salary, merit-based progression, and an annual company performance bonus.
  • Opportunities to work on innovative energy transition and sustainability projects.

Our Values

At Projective, strong relationships and engineering excellence underpin everything we do. We are committed to delivering high-performing, compliant, and sustainable solutions for our clients and are looking for individuals who share our passion for excellence, collaboration, and client-focused delivery.
