We are expanding our UK team and looking for an experienced Engineering Design Lead to support our growth from our Fleet office and to strengthen our technical leadership across all Projective’s regions.
The Role
The Engineering Design Lead is a senior leadership position responsible for driving technical excellence across Projective’s UK engineering functions. Based in Fleet, you will lead and develop a high‑performing technical team, ensure the quality and consistency of engineering outputs, and support project delivery by providing deep technical insight and direction. You will act as the principal technical authority within your discipline, playing a key role in driving innovation, enhancing technical capability, supporting clients, and contributing to the growth of the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Team Development: Lead, manage, and mentor engineers within the Engineering Design team to enable collaboration, professional growth, and high‑quality delivery. Provide line management and performance leadership as appropriate to the size of your team. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, technical curiosity and cross‑discipline collaboration.
- Technical Oversight & Quality Assurance: Serve as the senior technical authority, providing expert guidance on engineering deliverables. Ensure all technical documentation is reviewed and signed off by a suitably qualified individual prior to client release. Maintain compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and Projective’s internal quality systems. Continuously review and elevate Projective’s technical products and processes.
- Project Support & Resource Planning: Advise and ratify project resource plans for your technical team in partnership with Project Managers. Support project teams to ensure technical integrity, effective delivery and alignment with client expectations.
- Client Engagement: Build and maintain strong client relationships, serving as a trusted technical expert. Lead client technical discussions and present credible, innovative solutions. Represent Projective professionally in both technical and commercial forums.
- Capability Building & Innovation: Identify opportunities for new products, solutions and service offerings based on industry developments. Collaborate with Commercial and Marketing teams on go‑to‑market strategy for new technical offerings. Identify knowledge gaps and organise training and development opportunities to strengthen technical capability across the business.
- Commercial Support: Support business growth through technical input on proposals, attending client meetings, and contributing to insights on emerging trends. Act as a technical ambassador for Projective when engaging with clients, partners and stakeholders.
Experience & Skills
- Professional & Technical Expertise: Senior technical experience with deep knowledge in one or more of Projective’s core engineering areas. Practical experience of industrial utilities and engineering systems including: Boilers & steam plants, Refrigeration & cooling systems, Compressed air systems, Water treatment systems, HVAC, heat pumps, heat recovery and associated technologies. A strong track record of overseeing and responsibility for engineering design projects, including experience of implementation, commissioning and handover. A strong track record of technical leadership and delivery within industrial or consultancy environments. Demonstrated experience providing technical approval and sign‑off responsibility on engineering deliverables.
- Leadership & Collaboration: Experience building, coaching and leading high‑performing technical teams. Excellent communicator able to influence and lead across disciplines and organisational levels. Strong collaborator with a solutions‑oriented mindset and focus on excellent client satisfaction.
- Professional Attributes: Organised with excellent management and decision‑making skills. Quality‑driven and safety‑conscious with a proactive approach to problem solving. Inquisitive mindset with a willingness to challenge the status quo and embrace innovation. Confident leading technical discussions with clients and stakeholders.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Degree or higher qualification in Engineering or a relevant discipline.
- Professional engineering accreditation or recognised industry qualification preferred.
- Experience working with multi‑disciplinary, remote and international teams.
- Must have the right to work in the UK.
- Full UK driving licence and access to own transport is desirable.
