About Project Yananai

Project Yananai is a UK-headquartered international charity working across India, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe to tackle poverty and create lasting change through education, sustainable skills development and humanitarian aid.

Help build the next chapter of an ambitious international charity

We are now looking for an exceptional Deputy Chief Executive Officer to join our Global Executive Leadership Team.

This is a newly created role for someone who wants to do more than hold a senior title. We are looking for a strategic, entrepreneurial and highly collaborative leader who can help shape the organisation, turn ambition into action and build the structures, partnerships and relationships needed to take Project Yananai to the next level.

The opportunity

As DCEO, you will work closely with the CEO, Chair and senior leadership team to help drive the organisation’s strategy, growth and development.

You will have the opportunity to influence how an international charity develops from an ambitious organisation into a sustainable, high-impact institution.

Your focus will include:

  • Supporting the CEO in delivering Project Yananai’s strategic vision and priorities
  • Helping build the systems, structures and organisational capability needed to scale
  • Providing strategic and operational leadership across the organisation
  • Developing strong relationships with trustees, partners, funders and other senior stakeholders
  • Supporting fundraising, income generation and strategic partnerships
  • Identifying opportunities to strengthen the organisation’s impact, profile and reach
  • Helping develop a strong culture of accountability, collaboration and performance
  • Representing Project Yananai externally when required
  • Deputising for the CEO and providing leadership continuity across the organisation

Who we’re looking for

We are specifically looking for an experienced leader from the humanitarian, international development or international NGO sector.

You will ideally bring:

  • Significant senior leadership experience in humanitarian or international development
  • Experience of building, transforming or scaling an organisation or function
  • Strong strategic thinking combined with the ability to roll up your sleeves and make things happen
  • Experience developing partnerships, fundraising or generating income
  • Excellent stakeholder and relationship-building skills
  • Strong governance, commercial and organisational judgement
  • The confidence to operate in an evolving and entrepreneurial environment
  • International experience or experience working across different cultures and geographies
  • A collaborative leadership style and the ability to influence without relying on hierarchy
  • A genuine passion for creating social impact

Why join Project Yananai?

This is an opportunity to join an organisation at an important stage of its development and have a genuine influence on what it becomes.

You will work alongside an ambitious international leadership team and have the opportunity to shape strategy, strengthen organisational capability and contribute to programmes designed to create meaningful and sustainable change.

This is not a conventional corporate role. It is an opportunity to use your leadership experience, networks and expertise for a purpose that matters.

The commitment

  • This is a voluntary role requiring a minimum commitment of 10 hours per week.
  • The role operates on a commission-based model under Project Yananai’s contractor arrangements.
  • It is designed to be compatible with existing professional commitments and may suit an experienced leader who wants to contribute their expertise to an ambitious international charity alongside their career or other commitments.

Project Yananai is an equal opportunity organisation. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all colleagues. We encourage applications from people of all backgrounds and cultures. Project Yananai is a UK registered charity number .
