About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead a major National Grid substation project based in Newport. This is a high-profile, long-term infrastructure project with a 2-year delivery timeline, offering an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of the UK\’s energy network transformation.

Please note: The business is strongly encouraging the Project Manager to be on-site approximately 90% of the time to ensure effective delivery and team coordination.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the full lifecycle of the substation project, from mobilisation through to commissioning
  • Manage multidisciplinary teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders including National Grid
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards
  • Monitor project progress, budgets, and risk management
  • Report regularly to senior stakeholders and ensure alignment with programme milestones

What You\’ll Bring:

  • National Grid substation build experience, including working knowledge of NG Safety Rules, Specifications, and EPC/M&E Frameworks
  • Proven leadership on Design and Build projects, managing cross-functional teams
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, with experience engaging clients and suppliers
  • A qualification in construction or engineering, or equivalent relevant experience
  • A recognised Project Management qualification (e.g. APM, PMP)
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience managing NEC contracts
  • Demonstrated ability to manage risk and opportunity effectively
  • Solid understanding of regulatory frameworks including HSWA, CDM, and EAWR
  • Ability to drive a project through all lifecycle stages
  • Experience managing budgets, with a track record of delivering on time and within cost
  • Proficiency in Project Management software tools

  • Duration: 24 months
  • Rate: £550/day minimum (negotiable based on experience)
  • IR35: Client will conduct an IR35 determination for the first 6 months. A new SDS will be required thereafter.
