The Role: We are seeking a Senior Control, Electrical & Instrumentation (CE&I) Design Engineer to provide siteâbased, frontline design support to commissioning teams on a highly regulated, safetyâcritical facility. This is a handsâon senior design role, embedded at plant level during commissioning, where issues are identified, investigated and resolved through robust engineering judgement and controlled design change. The role is not focused on routine programming or implementation. Dedicated site teams carry out testing, installation and commissioning activities. Your responsibility is to diagnose problems, develop design solutions, and ensure changes meet functional and business requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide frontline CE&I design support to commissioning teams during active commissioning.
- Investigate faults observed on plant and during commissioning activities.
- Develop and modify detailed CE&I designs to resolve commissioningâled issues.
- Check detailed design outputs and design changes for technical integrity and compliance.
- Ensure design changes meet functional, safety and business needs.
- Interface effectively with commissioning teams (primary interface); other engineering disciplines; site operations (as required).
- Support and mentor earlyâcareer engineers within the design team.
- Maintain high standards of written and verbal technical communication.
Qualifications:
- Minimum HND (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or equivalent professional registration.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years' experience delivering as a Senior CE&I Design Engineer.
- Providing siteâbased design support to commissioning teams.
- Delivering, supporting and checking detailed design and design changes.
- Working understanding of external standards relating to Process instrumentation.
Other:
- Clear, confident verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness to work minimum 3 days per week on plant.
- Willingness to support and develop junior engineers.
- Must hold or be eligible for SC clearance.
- 7+ years' experience at senior level.
- Experience on highly regulated or nuclearâadjacent projects.
- Working knowledge of Sellafield Ltd (SL) Engineering Standards for Process instrumentation.
