Senior Electrical Design Engineer
Location: Wolverhampton (Hybrid Working)
Salary: Up to £60,000 + Package
Hours: 37 per week (flexible bands and core hours)
About the Senior Electrical Design Engineer Role
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join our team in Wolverhampton.
You will lead electrical design work packages and manage a team of engineers delivering complex engineering solutions from concept through to handover.
Projects typically involve large-scale, high-integrity machinery and process systems for highly regulated environments, covering full lifecycle design, integration, and commissioning.
These include advanced control systems, automation solutions, and safety-critical instrumentation for major Energy, Research & Defence Infrastructure and process facilities.
Key Responsibilities of Senior Electrical Design Engineer
- Interpret design input requirements into fit-for-purpose solutions
- Deliver projects within allocated budgets and timescales
- Day-to-day management of the electrical design team
- Supervise, verify, and produce design deliverables including schematics, GA drawings, cable schedules, and calculations
- Produce control panel designs including General Arrangements, detailed drawings, schematic diagrams, interlock diagrams for PLC & HMI hardware, motor starters & drives, safety circuits, instrumentation, and power distribution
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and liaise with manufacturing, testing, and commissioning teams
- Ensure compliance with UK H&S legislation and relevant standards
- Participate in HAZOP and design reviews
- Manage design change control and contract variations
- Produce key technical documentation including FDS, software documentation, technical files, O&M manuals, spares lists, and test documentation
What We're Looking For in a Senior Electrical Design Engineer
- HNC, HND or Degree in Electrical Engineering (or similar)
- Extensive electrical design engineering experience
- Prior experience managing and leading design teams
- Proficient in AutoCAD/AutoCAD Electrical and MS Office
- Knowledge of British/European standards and IEC 61508 (advantageous)
- Ability to gain UK Security Clearance
- Commitment to professional development – Chartership support provided
Salary & Benefits for Senior Electrical Design Engineer
- Up to £69k starting salary
- Hybrid & flexible working
- Pension: 5% employer / 5% employee + Death in Service (3 salary)
- 25 days annual leave + bank holidays + option to buy/sell up to 5 additional days
- Accrue up to 5 extra days for authorised extra hours
