We are seeking an experienced Principal EC&I Engineer to support the delivery of complex safety‑related projects within a highly regulated environment. This role is ideally suited to an engineer with a strong background in Control, Electrical & Instrumentation (CE&I) and Functional Safety, particularly within the nuclear industry. You will play a key role in the delivery of CE&I Safety System design, working closely with the safety case team and technical leads to ensure compliance with relevant standards and lifecycle processes.
Contract: 12‑month contract (Inside IR35)
Location: Hybrid / UK
Clearance: Must be eligible for SC clearance
Industry: Highly regulated sector - nuclear experience strongly preferred
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and deliver CE&I safety system design packages across complex, safety‑critical projects.
- Provide technical governance and oversight on functional safety matters.
- Ensure alignment with IEC safety standards, the nuclear functional safety lifecycle, and internal assurance processes.
- Coordinate with Safety Case, Systems Engineering, and wider project teams to ensure safe, compliant, and robust engineering solutions.
- Conduct SIL determination and verification activities.
- Produce and review technical documentation, including safety assessments, design reports, and lifecycle records.
- Support hazard identification, risk assessments, and design justification workstreams.
- Lead design reviews, technical workshops, and stakeholder engagements.
Essential Experience:
- Proven experience delivering CE&I Safety System Design in a highly regulated sector (nuclear preferred).
- Strong understanding of IEC‑61508 and IEC‑61511.
- Familiarity with the nuclear functional safety lifecycle.
- Demonstrable experience with SIL determination and verification activities.
- Experience working directly with or alongside Safety Case teams.
- Ability to obtain SC clearance.
- Strong technical report writing and communication skills.
