We are seeking an experienced Senior EC&I Engineer to support the design, installation, commissioning, and technical assurance of a broad range of automatic door and access systems on a contract basis. The role will focus on project delivery and specialist EC&I input across pedestrian automatic doors, large industrial doors, and safety‑critical doorsets, operating within nuclear, defence, transport, and other high‑hazard environments. Acting as the EC&I technical focal point within project teams, you will work closely with Mechanical Engineers, subcontractors, and client stakeholders to ensure systems are safe, compliant, and delivered to specification.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide EC&I engineering support across defined project scopes and work packages
  • Contribute to Functional Design Specifications and technical definitions
  • Undertake site surveys and assessments of existing installations
  • Produce detailed EC&I design documentation, including wiring schematics, control panel layouts, cable schedules and I/O lists
  • Perform Performance Level (PL) calculations using SISTEMA for SRP/CS
  • Ensure compliance with the UK Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 and Machinery Directive principles
  • Support site teams with fault finding, troubleshooting, and commissioning
  • Review, check, and technically verify EC&I drawings and documentation
  • Support NCR resolution and raise technical NCRs where required
  • Liaise with internal teams, subcontractors, and client representatives
  • Provide specialist input to improve design quality, safety, and delivery efficiency
  • Work flexibly to meet project milestones, including overtime where required

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong working knowledge of the UK Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008
  • Electrical Engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3, HNC/HND or equivalent experience)
  • Proven experience with automated doors, access systems, or comparable electro‑mechanical equipment
  • Excellent understanding of control systems, electrical circuits, and fault diagnostics
  • Familiarity with relevant standards, including BS EN 16005, BS EN 12453, BS EN ISO 13849‑1 / 13849‑2, BS EN 60204, BS 7671
  • Ability to interpret and produce EC&I drawings and technical documentation
  • Competent with 2D/3D CAD tools (AutoCAD 2D / Inventor 3D preferred)
  • Able to deliver compliant EC&I designs with minimal supervision
  • Experience producing calculations, reports, and technical specifications

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within nuclear, defence, transport, or heavy industry environments
  • Practical experience with roller shutters, sectional doors, industrial sliding doors, and powered access systems
  • ECS or CSCS card
  • Existing SC Clearance or eligibility to obtain
  • Experience with safety PLCs, VFDs, interlock and emergency release systems, SISTEMA PL verification tools
