A Global Engineering & Manufacturing Company, specialising in high-integrity high-performance engineered products for regulated and harsh environments, is currently recruiting an Electrical Systems Engineer for its Portsmouth operation.
The site combines R&D engineering and manufacturing and operates highly automated bespoke production equipment using modern control systems motion technology and safety systems. This is a technically driven environment where engineering input directly influences how equipment is designed integrated and operated.
Overview of Electrical Systems Engineer Role
This is a senior Electrical Systems Engineer role with responsibility for electrical design ownership and control integration across a fully automated production line. The role is not a pure electrical draughting position and not a PLC programmer role. The focus is on systems-level electrical integration, bringing together machines control panels PLC architecture motion systems and safety circuits into one working production process. You will be involved from initial specification through to commissioning support, combining design and documentation with regular time on the production line supporting integration fault finding and technical problem solving.
Key Responsibilities of Electrical Systems Engineer
- Own electrical systems design for automated production equipment from specification through to commissioning support.
- Produce functional design specifications electrical schematics and design packs.
- Support control panel design and review supplier documentation.
- Integrate PLC architecture I O sensing instrumentation drives motion systems and safety circuits.
- Liaise with internal engineering teams and external suppliers.
- Provide hands-on support during build commissioning and fault finding.
- Manage multiple engineering workstreams.
Experience Required for Electrical Systems Engineer Role
- HNC HND or degree level qualification or equivalent practical experience.
- Electrical circuit design and fault finding experience.
- Experience with automated control systems and electrical supplies.
- Electrical CAD capability.
- Understanding of PLC architecture from an integration perspective.
- Experience with motors drives and motion hardware.
- Basic IP networking knowledge.
- Comfortable working hands on in a design & manufacturing environment.
Desirable Experience for Electrical Systems Engineer Role
- Siemens PLC and motion systems.
- SimaticSimotion or Sinamics exposure.
- Servo drive configuration and basic PLC programming.
- Robotics exposure.
- BS7671.
- ISO13849 or functional safety exposure - Support is available to develop functional safety capability if required.
For the successful Electrical Systems Engineer, a salary of up to £65k is on offer + Pension (Up to 15% Combined Contribution) + Private Medical, Life Assurance & Income Protection, 25 days holiday and other flexible benefits including additional leave purchase.
This Electrical Systems role is based in Portsmouth and is commutable within around 60 minutes from Southampton, Fareham, Havant, Chichester, Waterlooville and surrounding areas. There will be a requirement for overseas travel with this role; However, travel is infrequent and short duration.
