- We are seeking an experienced
Senior EC&I Engineer to support the delivery of safety-critical projects within a highly regulated environment. This role is ideal for an engineer with a strong background in
Electrical, Control & Instrumentation (EC&I) Engineering and
Functional Safety , looking to contribute to complex nuclear programmes.
You will be responsible for the development and delivery of EC&I design packages, supporting the implementation of safety-related systems and working closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure compliance with functional safety standards, regulatory requirements, and project objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver EC&I engineering and design activities across safety-critical projects.
- Develop and review EC&I design documentation, including specifications, calculations, reports, and design packages.
- Support the design and implementation of safety-related control and instrumentation systems.
- Contribute to Functional Safety lifecycle activities in accordance with project and regulatory requirements.
- Undertake SIL assessments, verification activities, and associated documentation.
- Work closely with Safety Case, Systems Engineering, Process, and Electrical teams to develop compliant engineering solutions.
- Participate in hazard identification studies, risk assessments, and design reviews.
- Support verification, validation, testing, and commissioning activities where required.
- Ensure engineering deliverables are completed in line with project schedules, quality requirements, and applicable standards.
- Assist with technical problem-solving and provide engineering support throughout the project lifecycle.
Essential Experience
- Experience delivering EC&I design and engineering solutions within the nuclear sector or another highly regulated industry such as defence, energy, oil & gas, pharmaceutical, or rail.
- Good understanding of safety-related control and instrumentation systems.
- Working knowledge of
- IEC 61508 and
Functional Safety standards.
- Experience supporting SIL determination, verification, or assessment activities.
- Familiarity with the Functional Safety lifecycle and engineering assurance processes.
- Experience producing and reviewing technical engineering documentation.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Eligible for UK BPSS clearance.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience on nuclear new-build, decommissioning, defence nuclear, or major infrastructure projects.
- Experience working alongside Safety Case teams.
- Knowledge of PLC-based control systems and instrumentation design.
- Experience supporting commissioning and testing activities.
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards professional registration.
- Functional Safety qualifications would be advantageous.
Qualifications
- Degree, HNC, or HND in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Relevant industry certifications and professional memberships are desirable.
