Key Responsibilities
Management and Oversight
- Provide management oversight of social work services within your region to ensure timely, high-quality assessments and interventions that secure positive outcomes for children and families.
- Act as an expert in child and family assessments, mentoring team members and promoting best practices.
- Line manage social workers, providing regular professional supervision and ensuring adherence to organisational policies and procedures.
Case Management
- Support and oversee the effective management of caseloads, ensuring all work meets service standards and organizational expectations.
- Motivate team members to achieve high standards in their assessments, written work, and interventions.
- Maintain an up-to-date calendar and ensure adequate social work management cover, including participation in the on-call rota.
Safeguarding and Assessment
- Safeguard children, young people, and vulnerable adults by adhering to policies and promptly addressing concerns.
- Oversee social workers completing family assessments using the service model and framework, evaluating risks, harm, parenting capacity, and family strengths.
- Support social workers in implementing tailored strategies to address risks, including managing challenging behaviours in family settings.
Collaboration and Reporting
- Chair and participate in key meetings to monitor progress, address delays, and ensure plans are implemented within agreed timescales.
- Ensure social workers produce structured, clear, and evidence-based reports for courts, panels, and case conferences, supporting them in presenting evidence when needed.
- Collaborate with partner agencies to address safety concerns effectively and triangulate information for informed decision-making.
- Actively contribute to team and organisational meetings, fostering a collaborative and supportive work culture.
Leadership and Collaboration
- Lead social work improvement projects, contributing to service development, policies, and practices within legislative and policy frameworks.
- Mentor and model good practice for social workers and social work students, providing guidance, supervision, and opportunities for reflective practice.
- Deputize for the Service Manager – Social Work when required and provide cover for the Social Work Academy Practice Manager.
- Work across Progressive Care Services and within the community to deliver targeted support and fulfill management responsibilities as directed.
- Provide social work consultations for managers and team members, ensuring consistent application of best practices.
Requirements
- Degree in Social Work and current registration with the relevant regulatory body.
- Extensive experience in managing social work services, including supervision of staff and oversight of complex cases.
- Expertise in child and family assessments, safeguarding, and risk management.
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and communication skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of legal, regulatory, and statutory frameworks in social work practice.
