We are currently seeking a reliable and dedicated Caretaker to join a vibrant primary school in Derby close to the M1. This is an excellent opportunity to play a vital role in maintaining a safe and welcoming school environment.
Role Overview
As a Caretaker, you will be responsible for ensuring the school’s facilities are maintained to a high standard, supporting daily operations, and contributing to the smooth running of the school. This temporary role is essential in creating a safe, clean, and secure environment for staff and students.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs throughout the school.
- Ensure the premises are clean, tidy, and ready for use each day.
- Carry out regular health and safety checks, including fire alarm testing and risk assessments.
- Secure the building, including locking/unlocking doors and windows and setting alarms.
- Assist with setting up classrooms and halls for events or activities.
- Manage deliveries and stock, ensuring supplies are organised and stored appropriately.
- Respond promptly to any emergencies or urgent maintenance issues.
Candidate Requirements
Experience
- Previous experience as a Caretaker or in a similar facilities/maintenance role.
- Familiarity with basic maintenance tasks, such as plumbing, electrical, and general DIY.
Skills
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and proactively manage tasks.
- Good communication skills to liaise with staff, contractors, and suppliers.
Training / Knowledge
- Basic understanding of health and safety regulations.
- Knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures is desirable.
