An exciting opportunity has arisen at our Progress Rail Locomotive Depot in Longport for an experienced Locomotive Workshop Team Leader. Progress Rail Locomotive is a subsidiary of Progress Rail, a Caterpillar Company, specialized in manufacturing, maintaining and overhauling diesel-electric locomotives across the world. As a loco workshop team leader, you will be instrumental in the successful supervision of the team to ensure all production deadlines are met to relevant standards.

The role of Team Leader:
- Coach, mentor and lead a team, encouraging a high level of performance in self and others, undertaking performance management where needed
- Recruit & train all personnel including contractors
- Participate in the company appraisal process and employee relations meetings
- Plan and distribute workload in the team to ensure deadlines are met
- Resource planning - annual leave, training, sickness absence
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement
- Provide technical expertise on all welding matters as required in line with daily activities as well as specific projects
- Take ownership of workshop housekeeping & daily 5S tasks, challenging the team where standards fall below expected levels
- Develop the workshop records and procedures in line with the British Standard
- Carry out inspections, spot checks, final inspections to ensure standards are maintained
- Provide quality shift handover information to ensure minimal disruption
- Work closely with the Production and Depot Managers to ensure maximum operational effectiveness and minimum downtime for area of responsibility
- Maintain at all times high levels of professionalism and work ethics

- Leadership experience working in a Heavy Maintenance facility
- Clear leadership skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong track record of being a team player & encouraging a high level of performance in self and others
- IOSH Managing safely or equivalent would be a plus
