Progress Rail is looking to recruit a talented Design Engineer to join our diverse and dynamic Engineering team in Sandiacre. Managing 2-3 projects at any one time, you will be responsible for the design and development of engineering products from the justification stage, through to provision of documentation and technical support in service. This includes the interfaces with related equipment, assembly, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Your technical knowledge will enable you to have sufficient awareness of details to recognise when technical problems are becoming apparent and be able to initiate corrective actions.
THE ROLE: As a Design Engineer you will be required to:
- Undertake all aspects of product design, development and safety of engineering products for rail track systems of the projects you oversee
- Assisting with the development of prototypes
- Producing stress calculations and FEA simulations
- Developing work instructions & procedures
- Assist with the research and development of new products
- Continuous improvement of existing products, processes and design tools
- Oversight of engineering governance including sign off concessions, rework and quality ensuring product meets industry and company standards
THE CANDIDATE: The ideal Design Engineer:
- Degree educated in relevant engineering discipline or equivalent
- At least two years’ experience working within a regulated and safety critical manufacturing industry such as nuclear, chemical, aerospace, or automotive
- Ability to generate design solutions to recognised standards
- Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership
- Innovative and resilient problem solver
- A knowledge of Finite Element Analysis would be a benefit
- Willingness to travel nationwide and overseas on occasion
