Various shift patterns available including:

  • Days: Monday to Thursday, 06:00 – 13:40 & Friday 06:00 – 13:00
  • Afters: Monday to Thursday, 13:35 – 21:15 & Friday 12:55 – 19:55
  • Nights: Monday to Thursday, 21:00 – 06:00
  • Sunday to Tuesday, 06:00 – 18:00
  • Sunday to Tuesday, 18:00 – 06:00
  • Wednesday to Friday, 06:00 – 18:00
  • Wednesday to Friday, 18:00 – 06:00

Progress Rail is looking to recruit 2 CNC Machinists to operate CNC Milling Machines and produce machined components to the production plan, in a safe and efficient manner, within the planned production time and to the required quality.

The Role

As a CNC Machinist you will be required to:

  • Ensure the correct grade of rail is used for each job as described on cutting sheets (training provided).
  • Follow instructions on the route card and be competent in reading drawings.
  • Identify and load the correct tools for the job of changing inserts and indexable tooling.
  • Load/unload rails to machine using internal cranes as well as with the help of sideloader, tandem lifting and banksman duties as and when required.
  • Load, backup and edit programs.
  • Use grinders, belt sanders and other power tools along with templates, gauges and probing cycles.
  • Ensure the machine is programmed with the correct data for the process required for each rail.
  • Train new operatives when required.
  • Ensure that safety requirements are met and work in accordance with the company’s procedures and legislation. Wearing of correct PPE, housekeeping etc.
  • Report accidents and 'near miss' incidents in accordance with procedures.
  • Communicate with the following shift via the logbook and at shift changeover.
  • Ensure quality standards are met and improved on wherever possible.

The Candidate

The ideal CNC Machinist:

  • Previous experience should include manufacturing industry, preferably in a medium to heavy environment.
  • CNC Milling experience with programming capability.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings.
  • Awareness of safety legislation and quality procedures (ISO 9001).
