Starting Salary from £32,625 (from £29,000 base salary DoE + 12.5% shift allowance)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Locomotive Fitter to join our team at our Longport, Stoke-on-Trent depot. As a Locomotive Fitter, you will play an integral role in providing a solution for the repair, overhaul, servicing and modifications of a fleet of commercial freight locomotives. If you are a genuine team-player with a proactive approach to task completion and you take pride and responsibility for the quality of your own work, this could be the role for you.

Ideally we are looking for a Fitter that has experience within the rail industry, but with many cross transferable skills the role would suit candidates that are exiting the Armed forces, particularly the REME or those that have experience with servicing large HGVs, buses or trams.

The Locomotive Fitter role includes:

  • Carrying out repairs, service and maintenance on locomotives
  • Undertaking routine inspections and basic exam tasks
  • Assisting loco technicians with fault finding
  • Working to ensure the on-time completion of tasks while delivering zero defects and/or warranty claims on own areas of work
  • Contributing to the company’s continuous improvement activities
  • Proactive and effective support of team members in the completion of tasks
  • Maintaining a safe, tidy and clean work area
  • Acting as a role model to Quality, Health and Safety and Environmental Policies

The successful candidate will work the following shift pattern:

  • Week 1 – Monday-Thursday 06:00-14:30, Friday 06:00-12:00
  • Week 2 – Monday-Thursday 14:00-22:30, Friday 11:00-17:00

What we would love you to bring to the role:

  • Level 2 in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Driving license (B/ B1)
  • Demonstrable history of working effectively with Locomotives or similar heavy plant machinery
  • Strong work ethic with a proactive approach to getting tasks done
  • A strong communicator with ability to build relationships across the organisation
  • Good attention to detail and a logical, analytical and objective approach to problem solving
  • High level of professionalism & strong sense of customer satisfaction
  • Eager to be adaptable and learn new skills
  • Good level of physical fitness

You’ll need to be based close to our Longport, Stoke-on-Trent depot and have a valid right to work in the UK.
