Progress Rail Services UK is seeking a Planning Engineer to support the Planning & Materials Manager in driving effective change management and maintaining accurate product structures. The role supports tactical and strategic initiatives to improve supply chain planning processes and ensures production plans meet customer demand.

Location: Sandiacre, NG10 5AN (Onsite)

Responsibilities

  • Review MRP and S&OP data to support the release of production, spares and change related work in line with supply chain requirements.
  • Create and maintain Material Master data and product templates within MRP to support PFEP changes and forecast delivery.
  • Develop and analyse forecasts to support decision‑making across demand, capacity, inventory and work content.
  • Build and maintain agile inventory plans to meet internal and external service level targets.
  • Visualise material flow and identify opportunities to reduce cost and improve supply chain efficiency.
  • Lead constraint management activities, monitoring capacity, identifying risks and developing mitigation strategies.
  • Streamline supply chain processes and systems, driving continuous improvement and planning best practices.
  • Manage project‑specific plans, working cross‑functionally to ensure alignment and adoption.
  • Perform inventory reconciliation, maintain planning rules and produce departmental KPIs to ensure data accuracy and reporting.
  • Proactively resolve issues, support colleagues, and promote a positive safety‑first culture in line with company standards.

Qualifications

  • Experience across multiple supply chain disciplines (Production Planning, Material Planning, Logistics or Supply Chain Administration).
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, advanced Excel skills preferred.
  • Proven ERP/MRP system experience in a supply chain or manufacturing environment.
  • Solid understanding of material master data, BOM management and product structures.
  • Experience assessing and implementing engineering or customer change notices.
  • Broad understanding of end‑to‑end supply chain principles and functional interdependencies.
  • Hands‑on experience in materials and inventory planning, including supplier replenishment strategies.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing planning processes including MPS, MRP, capacity planning, shop floor control and warehousing.
  • Demonstrable experience in constraint management, problem solving and applying agile or lean solutions.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills, managing complexity, balancing priorities, engaging stakeholders at all levels.
