Are you a Design Engineer looking to work on varied, challenging projects within a dynamic and collaborative engineering environment? Progress Rail Services UK is seeking a talented Design Engineer to join our diverse Engineering team based in Sandiacre.
Managing multiple projects at any one time, you’ll take ownership of the design and development of engineering products from initial justification through to full technical documentation and in‑service support. You’ll be involved across the full product lifecycle, working closely with interfaces such as assembly, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal.
THE ROLE: As a Design Engineer you will be required to:
- Design, develop and safety‑validate engineering products for rail track systems, with a focus on cost‑effective manufacture and installation
- Improve existing products, processes and design tools
- Evaluate and select optimal design solutions
- Produce drawings and technical documentation for formal design acceptance and sign‑off
- Identify emerging risks and opportunities, keeping Senior Engineers informed
- Deliver accurate, high‑quality work in line with engineering and drawing standards
- Use and support the development of new design tools
- Apply practical understanding of product behaviour, manufacturability and maintenance
- Complete design tasks accurately and to agreed timescales
- Support manufacturing with engineering compliance, NCRs and process changes
THE CANDIDATE: The ideal Design Engineer:
- Masters Degree in relevant engineering discipline or equivalent
- At least two years’ experience working within a regulated and safety critical manufacturing industry such as nuclear, chemical, aerospace, or automotive
- Ability to generate design solutions to recognised standards
- Strong communication skills
- Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership
- Innovative and resilient problem solver
- A knowledge of Finite Element Analysis would be a benefit
- Willingness to travel nationwide and overseas on occasion
