Are you ready for a new challenge in children’s residential services? We are opening our first service for children 14+ to help prepare them for adult life. This is registered as a 4 bedded Children’s Home and is in the heart of a residential community. This is a brand-new service and has recently been fully refurbished to a high standard, to provide support for children and young people with additional needs, with the aim of supporting their transition into adult life.

The home is part of a growing range of flexible services provided by Progress Care Solutions aimed at Children and Young People with varying degrees of additional needs. The aim is to work with children and young people to support them in all aspects of their care. Our mission is to provide a safe, nurturing, and empowering environment where each young person can develop the skills, confidence, and resilience needed for a successful and independent future, whilst ensuring they have fun, participate in activities and live their best life!

Key Responsibilities

  • With the Home Manager be responsible for the development, leadership, coordination, and support of the staff group.
  • To deputise for Home Manager in their absence.
  • To ensure that all children and young people have their needs met and their welfare always promoted.
  • To supervise the Team Leaders, enabling them to supervise and support the staff team, including all performance reviews, appraisals, and supervisions.
  • With the Home Manager be responsible for all aspects of budgetary control relating to the home including young people’s finances.
  • To ensure that effective records are maintained in accordance with Children’s Homes Regulations 2015 and associated Regulations and Standards.
  • To be responsible for ensuring that effective rotas are prepared and followed.
  • To be the lead on the on-call rota.
  • To work in conjunction with the Home Manager to ensure staffing levels are always maintained in line with safer recruitment and Ofsted requirements including agency requirements.
  • To support the Home Manager with all home KPI’s and support during both Ofsted inspections and Reg 44 visits.
  • To assist in coordinating referrals for the home and responding flexibly to requests for service, within the context of individual agreements and the home’s Statement of Purpose including all relevant paperwork.
  • To work effectively with Commissioning Partners, Police, LSCB, Public Health and Ofsted etc.
  • To create person-centred support plans, risk assessments and use outcome measures to plan young people's preparation for adulthood.
  • To work internally to plan and support transitions into our adult services.
  • To carry out any other duties and responsibilities that may be required within the scope of the Deputy Manager's role.
  • The Deputy Manager needs to be flexible in their approach and cover some tasks that may not be identified in the job description.
  • To work towards the relevant management qualifications in line with your professional development, in preparation for developing into managing the home.
  • The Deputy Manager when required for the safety or direction of the Home Manager be able to join and work on the staffing rota including flexibility to work both early and late shifts.

Person Specification

  • Qualifications: Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management (Residential Childcare)
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years’ experience working with children & young people; proven management/supervisory experience; strong Ofsted outcomes; in-depth knowledge of children’s residential regulations; experience supporting young people with LD, ASD & behaviours that challenge.
  • Skills: Strong analytical and decision-making skills; excellent communication and influencing ability; highly organised, proactive, and self-motivated; able to manage priorities and deadlines with minimal supervision; attention to detail with strong follow-through; personable, professional, and resilient; honest, reliable, and trustworthy; works well independently and as part of a team.
