PATH is a global nonprofit dedicated to achieving health equity. With more than 40 years of experience forging multisector partnerships and with expertise in science, economics, technology, advocacy, and dozens of other specialties, PATH develops and scales up innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing health challenges.

PATH seeks a Senior Digital Health Lead to lead and shape the use of digital health and data systems for malaria and disease surveillance programs. This role provides strategic and technical leadership to national programs and partners, helping design, integrate, and scale digitally enabled approaches that strengthen surveillance, decision-making, and program performance. The position combines deep knowledge of digital health systems with applied experience in malaria or similar health fields, working across country, regional, and global levels to align technology investments with public health impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of digitally enabled approaches for malaria and disease surveillance across diverse countries.
  • Advise Ministries of Health and partners on the selection, integration, and use of digital health platforms for data collection, analysis, visualization, and action.
  • Support development of digital and data governance frameworks, including data sharing, privacy, and security standards.
  • Guide improvements to geographic data systems, geo-registries, and spatial analytics to strengthen visualization and decision-making.
  • Facilitate strategy discussions on digitalization with donors, governments, and internal PATH teams, translating donor priorities into actionable program designs.
  • Strengthen integration and interoperability across health information systems and digital tools.
  • Design and manage partnerships to advance digital health innovation within malaria programs.
  • Provide team leadership for digital health specialists, including supervision and mentorship of technical staff, and contribute to proposal development and resource mobilization efforts.
  • Represent PATH’s digital health and malaria capabilities internally and externally.

Qualifications and Experience

  • 10+ years of experience designing and implementing digital health or health information system programs in low-resource settings.
  • Requires demonstrated experience in DHIS2 configuration, ETL pipeline construction, and API development, combined with the ability to architect, oversee, and technically guide complex digital health implementations.
  • Advanced understanding of malaria programs or similar health areas, disease surveillance, and digital health landscapes, including the use of data and digital tools to support program decision-making.
  • Experience working with a range of digital health platforms and analytics tools, with the ability to assess, integrate, and guide their effective use across diverse program contexts.
  • Requires fluency in dashboard design, data quality concepts, and system performance considerations, with responsibility focused on technical leadership rather than day-to-day operations and development.
  • Strong system design, integration expertise, and architecture skills.
  • Includes experience engaging with software development practices (e.g., version control, testing, debugging, performance tuning) at an architectural and review level.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with emerging digital health and data innovations including AI.
  • Requires focus on application and program integration rather than direct model development, data annotation, or data engineering.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and operate effectively in multidisciplinary environments, including staff supervision, mentoring, and concurrent management of multiple initiatives.
  • Fluency in English and preferably French; willingness to travel up to 30%.
