An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Lead Engineer to join a highly regulated and complex engineering environment on a 12 month contract. This role will see you taking ownership of facility design delivery across key projects, ensuring solutions are safe, compliant, and aligned with business and operational requirements. You will play a critical role in leading engineering activity, working closely with senior stakeholders, and driving high quality design outcomes from concept through to handover.

As the Lead Engineer, you will act as the primary engineering authority on allocated projects, responsible for delivering integrated facility design solutions that meet performance, safety, and regulatory standards. You will ensure designs are fit for purpose across the full lifecycle, from initial concept through to construction, commissioning, and final handover.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Act as the lead engineering representative and main point of contact for all engineering matters on assigned projects.
  • Deliver integrated facility design solutions, including appropriate safety and compliance documentation.
  • Ensure engineering requirements are clearly defined, suitable, and aligned to business needs.
  • Provide recommendations on budget and programme to support design delivery.
  • Oversee design progression through regular reviews, ensuring quality, safety, and compliance standards are met.
  • Manage design intent and configuration control from project inception through to handover.
  • Assess the suitability of designs at each project phase (tender, construction, commissioning, etc.).
  • Ensure appropriate engineering resource capability and competency (internal and external).
  • Drive delivery with a focus on safety, quality, cost effectiveness, and schedule.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of engineering capability.

  • Proven experience in leading engineering design within complex or regulated environments.
  • Strong understanding of facility or infrastructure design lifecycle.
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and act as a key decision-maker.
  • Experience ensuring designs meet safety, regulatory, and compliance standards.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
