About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced Property & Liability New Business Underwriter to join the Leeds office within a globally recognised insurance group. This role is central to driving profitable growth across the region, with a strong focus on disciplined risk selection, technical excellence, and building high‑quality broker relationships. You’ll underwrite new business across core Property and Liability lines, taking ownership of underwriting decisions and contributing directly to the performance of the regional portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Underwrite and price new Property & Liability risks in line with underwriting strategy, appetite, and profitability targets.
  • Assess complex risks with strong technical discipline, ensuring high‑quality new business enters the portfolio.
  • Build, manage, and grow broker relationships across Leeds and the wider Yorkshire market, developing a strong pipeline of opportunities.
  • Negotiate terms confidently and commercially to secure profitable deals while maintaining competitiveness.
  • Collaborate with actuarial, claims, and product teams to refine pricing, appetite, and proposition.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and regional developments to support strategic decision‑making.
  • Represent the business at broker meetings, industry events, and regional forums.

About You

  • Strong underwriting experience within Property and Liability commercial lines, ideally in a new business environment.
  • Commercially minded with a track record of delivering profitable growth.
  • Excellent broker‑facing skills with the ability to influence, negotiate, and build long‑term partnerships.
  • Confident decision‑maker with strong analytical capability and sound judgement.
  • Good understanding of the UK regional market, particularly Yorkshire and the North.
  • Progress toward ACII or full qualification is advantageous.
