A Rigger is responsible for the safe setup, lifting, moving, and securing of heavy loads, structures, and materials using cranes, hoists, and rigging equipment. This role requires expertise in reading lift plans, calculating load weights, and ensuring all operations are carried out in compliance with health and safety regulations. The Rigger will work closely with crane operators, supervisors, and site teams to coordinate lifts, direct load movements, and maintain a safe working environment at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Select, inspect, and prepare rigging equipment such as chains, slings, shackles, and spreader bars.
- Attach loads safely and ensure correct balance and stability during lifting operations.
- Direct and signal crane operators using standard hand and radio signals.
- Carry out pre-lift safety checks and risk assessments.
- Read and interpret load charts, lifting plans, and technical drawings.
- Maintain rigging gear and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Work as part of a team to coordinate safe and efficient lifting operations.
Required Certifications & Training
- NPORS (National Plant Operators Registration Scheme)
- NVQ Level 3 in Rigging or related discipline
- CSCS Card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme)
- IPAF (International Powered Access Federation) Certification
- Working at Height Training
- Safe Pass (Ireland)
- CSR Card (Construction Skills Register Northern Ireland)

- Proven experience as a Rigger in construction, industrial, or offshore projects.
