A career at Burgh Island is unique and is not for the faint-hearted. Island life brings with it several challenges in terms of location and working hours. Resilience and flexibility is a must.

F/T: 40 hours per week, Salary: £28,500 per annum (Live-in accommodation is available, subject to availability.) Applicants must have the right to work in the UK; sponsorship is not available for this position.

Responsible for the management and accountability of the front office operations. Ensuring the highest standards of customer service are delivered and that budgeted revenue and profitability are achieved. Ensuring the smooth running of all the front-of-house operations through communication and in providing an excellent environment for guests and staff across all areas of the hotel. Maximises revenue for bedrooms, ensuring all revenue avenues are explored and utilised, and all reservations are carefully input. Ensuring forecasting and reporting are accurate and revenue targets are met. Ensures the reservation process is fully mapped out for all team members and guest satisfaction is tracked and improved. Ensures all PCI and GDPR requirements are met.

Responsibilities include:

  • Meet and greet guests on arrival if necessary
  • Manage the day-to-day smooth running of reception
  • Provide a task list to the team and ensure these are completed in a timely manner
  • Assist the team with any difficult guests or conversations
  • Manage cancellations and refund requests if the reception manager is not on duty
  • Daily new reservation check if the reception manager is not on duty
  • Change the rota if necessary and the reception manager is not on duty
  • Make sure all future guests and non-residents are aware of any sea tractor changes
  • Ensure health and safety is maintained at all times
  • Make sure the team are providing in-depth handovers and completing the daily shift sheet
  • Be the point of call for any team issues when the reception manager is not on duty
  • Handle emergencies if necessary if you are the only DM on shift
  • Make sure reception is always manned
  • Be proactively checking future reservations e.g. non-residents are booked into ResDiary etc.
  • Be proactively checking for any close outs that need to be booked in

General duties:

  • Assist with other functions as necessary.
  • Maintain register of visiting maintenance/service companies.
  • Report accidents or incidents promptly and correctly.
  • Be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour in or around the hotel.
  • Handle emergencies if necessary, during shift.
  • Comply with all Reception related SOPs.
  • You are expected to be presentable at all times.
  • Make sure there is always someone at the reception at all operational times.
