Job Description
ABOUT THE ROLE
ProfessionLX specializes in professional services where we engage our employees to empower them to excel for our customers. We’re seeking a dedicated Religious Education (RE) Coordinator to lead the children’s ministry for the RAF Mildenhall Protestant Parish. In this role, you’ll organize and run weekly children’s church, seasonal programs, and special events like VBS, while also equipping volunteers through training and support. Your focus will be on creating a nurturing environment that fosters spiritual growth and community.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
As the Religious Education (RE) Coordinator, you’ll take the lead in shaping and running the Protestant children\’s education ministry at RAF Mildenhall. Each year, you’ll submit a proposed calendar and budget for the upcoming year, outlining events, curriculum needs, and any material requests. You’ll be responsible for organizing and leading weekly Children’s Church, as well as seasonal events like Christmas and Easter programs, Vacation Bible School (VBS), bi-annual Ministry Fairs, and an annual Volunteer Appreciation Event. You’ll also be responsible for making sure any offerings collected during RE events follow Air Force financial procedures.
This role is highly collaborative. You’ll attend weekly chapel staff meetings and bi-monthly check-ins with the Protestant chaplain in charge of RE to review enrollment, plan upcoming events, and set goals. You’ll also be an active member of the Protestant Pastoral Advisory Committee (PAC).
You’ll recruit, interview, assign, and supervise all RE volunteers—teachers, helpers, and substitutes—and maintain current contact lists for both volunteers and students. You’ll identify curriculum needs, submit annual orders, and provide training for volunteers using well-researched, approved resources. You’ll maintain attendance records for all children’s activities and ensure that an updated volunteer list is submitted each month. It’s important to confirm that all volunteers working with children under 18 have a current, favorable background check on file.
Before each Sunday Children’s Church session, you’ll arrive at least 30 minutes early and stay until the space is clean, orderly, and secure. You’ll also create RE brochures, keep an updated calendar of activities one year in advance, and coordinate with facility schedulers to reserve chapel space or external locations like DoD schools for events like VBS. No events should be promoted before receiving official approval on both the event and the space.
When needed, you\’ll prepare outreach activities for children and help with publicity—submitting announcements to bulletins, base newspapers, and other platforms, all with prior chaplain approval. You\’ll also manage a library of RE resources (books, videos, etc.), maintain a continuity file for the position, and ensure full supervision during children’s activities via the chapel\’s Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) system.
Finally, flexibility is key—whether it’s leading daytime or evening sessions, planning events, or jumping into last-minute needs, your commitment helps create a vibrant and spiritually nurturing environment for the youngest members of the parish.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need at least a year of experience working in a church or chapel religious education program. You should feel confident planning and coordinating events—like children’s church, seasonal programs, or Vacation Bible School—while keeping things organized and running smoothly.
Being comfortable with Microsoft Office tools like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is important, since you’ll use them for planning, communication, and materials prep.
