Responsibilities:

  • Manage the services and activities of the assigned nursing unit, including planning, organizing, directing, and evaluating the delivery of patient care and overall unit/clinic operations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and clinical skills appropriate to the area of assignment.
  • Maintain high visibility (approximately 80% clinical presence) to ensure that patient care activities comply with hospital, divisional, and unit-specific guidelines, policies, procedures, standards, and protocols.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration skills when interacting with patients, families, healthcare team members, and staff from other departments.
  • Develop and utilize professional collegial networks.
  • Maintain an open-door policy for unit staff.
  • Coordinate the teaching and mentoring of nursing, medical, and paramedical students, interns, and residents.
  • Collaborate with all healthcare team members in activities designed to improve patient care outcomes.
  • Ensure the provision of patient and family education based on needs assessment, readiness, and discharge planning, utilizing appropriate resources.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement within the unit; develop, lead, implement, and participate in quality improvement processes and activities.
  • Act as a departmental liaison in nursing and/or hospital committees and workgroups.
  • Conduct staff performance appraisals.
  • Achieve staff performance goals through coaching, guidance, and counseling.
  • Facilitate training and professional development of staff.
  • Ensure compliance by self and staff with all hospital safety precautions.
  • Maintain an updated staff matrix of required recertifications.
  • Ensure availability and proper maintenance of medical equipment and supplies to meet operational needs.
  • Maintain all records pertaining to unit operations and generate required reports.
  • Conduct staff meetings and maintain minutes.
  • Develop staffing plans and work schedules to ensure continuous operations.
  • Serve as a professional role model and resource person to nursing staff.
  • Demonstrate respect, compassion, and cultural sensitivity toward patients, families, colleagues, students, and faculty.
  • Assume responsibility for personal professional growth, decision-making, and actions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. Current registration as a professional registered nurse. Eligible for registration with Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.
  • Work Experience: Minimum of 8 (eight) years current clinical nursing experience following licensure/registration in the country of origin, 3 (three) years of which in specific field/area and in comparable management position.
