Health & Safety Manager for those already qualified as such, but for the right candidate we would recruit a

Senior Health & Safety Advisor who can be progressed to manager role .

The role is a full time, permanent position working 35 hours per week Monday - Friday 09:00-5:00pm.

This role will be a Northampton based member of the Risk & Compliance team, which currently runs from our Wigan head office.

Expected focus is to be on the management of implementing our Health & Safety Management System at two Northampton depots, by undertaking required activities to ensure the continued certification to BS ISO 45001 (Health & Safety).

This role is to ensure that daily activities, continue to be implemented with health & safety seen as a mandatory function of the business, and of course includes performance of daily, weekly, or monthly audits, checks and inspections.

As our Health & Safety Manager / Senior Health & Safety Advisor your key responsibilities and will include;

  • Manage the implementation of our management system and support managers in the promotion and implementation of a successful program of H&S management
  • Undertake a fixed program of auditing policies, processes and working practices, reviewing risk assessments and responding to Health & Safety events, accidents or near misses, including undertaking investigations at our Northampton warehouses.
  • Liaise and collaborate with onsite management teams from Warehouse, Facilities & Home Delivery teams to ensure the performance of internal inspections and audits across the sites and perform monitoring, measurement and analysis of H&S performance.
  • Act as local point of contact for colleagues requesting H&S/risk-based information and be a clear advocate for the H&S management system leading by example.
  • Available to work outside of normal 9-5 hours where required in response to emergencies.
  • The role also requires some work to be undertaken at planned times outside of normal hours such as night shift observations, drug & alcohol screening or audits.
  • Our ideal candidate will have the following skills / experience;
  • NEBOSH NGC or be keen to work towards.
  • IOSH Working Safely or Managing Safety, or keen to work towards
  • Experience of the H&S MAC tool is desirable
  • Previous First Aid and/or Fire Marshal experience
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and competent user of MS Office applications
  • Able to remain calm in emergency situations and as/when required, take control and assert relevant and appropriate authority
  • Ability to view issues with impartiality, provide clear impartial advice, empathize with colleagues and influence behaviours.
  • Experience of managing people is not mandatory but will potentially be beneficial for future development.
  • Candidates with experience in Warehousing. Logistics and Home Delivery businesses are preferred, but candidates with transferable skills will be invited to interview

This role is ideally for someone who already holds a NEBOSH qualification in the management and implementation of Health & safety, preferably the National General certificate, but training and progression towards this is available for the right candidate.

The role will be subject to development towards other professional qualifications in Health & Safety including but not limited to NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate and NEBOSH Risk Assessment of Manual Handling.
