This is a key role responsible for sourcing, selecting and purchasing goods or services as well as ensuring material availability. This role will require strong sourcing, negotiation and communication skills at all levels of the business both internally and externally.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Job Functions):

  • Sourcing and Selection: Researching and identifying reliable suppliers, manufacturers, and wholesalers.
  • Contract Negotiation: Negotiating product prices, quantities, product consolidation, delivery timescales, and exclusivity arrangements to secure maximum ROI.
  • Supplier Relationships regarding performance and quality.
  • Order Book Management and maintenance of MRP system.
  • Inventory Management: Processing purchase orders (POs), updating stock management databases, and tracking deliveries.
  • Trend Analysis: Reviewing historical sales data and forecasting customer demand or upcoming industry trends.
  • Quality Assurance: Evaluating supplier reliability, checking the quality of received stock, and resolving billing or shipping discrepancies.
  • Cross-Department Collaboration: Working with production, planning, logistics, commercial, marketing teams and warehouse operations to assist with projects, products and services.
  • General Ad Hoc Duties.

Experience & Education:

  • Experience of using an MRP system, ideally JDE.
  • Experience of a manufacturing environment highly desirable (preferably FMCG).
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Good with MS Office and Excel ability.
  • Shown aptitude to manage a varied supplier base.
  • Ability to read and understand drawings is desirable.
  • Knowledge of contract negotiation.
  • Evidence of supplier consolidation.
  • Shown proficiency in delivering cost savings.
  • CIPS or equivalent would be advantageous.
  • Strong Administration Skills.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs):

  • Cost Savings vs. Budget: Total capital saved through contract re-negotiations and strategic bulk purchasing.
  • Supplier On-Time In-Full (OTIF): Percentage of vendor shipments arriving precisely within the agreed delivery window and quality standards.
  • Inventory Turnover Ratio: How frequently the purchased stock is sold and replaced over a set financial period.
  • Gross Margin Return on Investment (GMROI): The financial return generated for every pound invested in inventory assets.
