Prodrive Advanced Technology design, develop and produce solutions that enhance our client\’s projects and solve their technical challenges. We specialise in active aero systems, intelligent interiors and niche vehicles across automotive, aerospace, defence and marine sectors. Our capabilities span across a wide range of functions including system integration, design engineering, electronics and electrical systems, and chassis engineering.
We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to design and mature components of mechanical systems, from concept through to production and to take ownership of mechanical systems and components across projects, ensuring technical delivery to time, cost and quality targets. Projects are likely to be fully vehicle or mechatronics related, with a focus on the design, development and production of full system solutions
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for detailed design of specified hardware, ensuring they are engineered to meet the Prodrive quality standards and customer requirements.
- Optimise the design of components or systems using specified functional or analytical tools, including hand calcs where appropriate.
- Technical ownership of Bill of Materials and coordination of engineering release activities in PLM and ERP/MRP systems.
- Creation and development of FMEA from concept to manufacturing phase including reviews.
- Hold design reviews ensuring all stakeholders are involved.
- Timely delivery of detail drawings, test results, reports, or hardware to the required standards, using either Prodrive or client processes.
- Engagement with physical build; issue tracking and investigation (including 8D).
- Execution of test activities, including specification, setup, testing and reporting, to meet the objectives of the project.
- Effective liaison with other engineers, Quality, Procurement and suppliers to exchange all necessary information.
- Technical liaison with customers.
- Leading relevant work packages or work streams within the project scope.
- Support systems engineers and technical leads with requirements elicitation and target setting.
Who are we looking for?
- Engineering degree or equivalent within Mechanical, Automotive or Motorsport.
- Experience with CAD and PLM tools (CATIA V5 and Windchill particularly) is preferred with the correct application of GD&T as necessary.
- Experience gained within an automotive OEM; Tier 1 supplier or design consultancy.
- Effective engineering delivery experience in a vehicle under body systems, e.g. suspension, brakes, steering, transmission, driveline, powertrain and/or EV and hybrid systems, or other complex mechanisms is preferred – particularly mechatronics elements.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes, technologies, materials and fastening techniques.
- Familiarity with manufacturing techniques including fabrication, welding and CNC machining.
- Understanding of functional and analytical tools, including hand calcs, FEA, where appropriate, to optimise the design of components and systems
- Experience in supporting the development of junior team members would be an advantage
- Ability to grasp new concepts quickly and perform effectively in unfamiliar situations.
- Ability to understand, solve and communicate design and technical problems with colleagues, customers, and suppliers.
