At Prodrive we believe there's no limit to what can be achieved when the brightest minds come together. Joining one focused and driven team, you will challenge boundaries in order to change the game for our customers. Our Advanced Technology business is where we combine our pace and agility with free-thinking to deliver complex engineering solutions and specialist manufacturing programmes to the automotive, aerospace, marine, and defence sectors, accelerating the net zero journey for our customers.

We are seeking a Principal Electrical & Electronic Systems Integration Engineer to design and deliver integrated systems across a diverse range of engineering projects varying in size and scope. You will be comfortable working in fast-moving, low-definition environments where requirements and solutions evolve as programmes mature. You'll be able to structure problems, identify gaps in information, and drive clarity through collaboration across disciplines.

Key responsibilities:
  • Enable electrical & electronic architectures through successful delivery of integrated electrical & electronic systems.
  • Electrical & electronic system definition, specification & requirement capture.
  • Identification and selection of suitable electrical & electronic systems/hardware (sensors, motors, actuators, compute) and supporting other functions in carrying out the same.
  • Define system behaviour and performance based on requirements.
  • Creation and maintenance of detailed system design documents.
  • Deliver in-vehicle network design (e.g CANbus) and message definition.
  • Follow industry standard techniques to ensure quality of delivery, e.g. DFMEA.
  • Lead system and component-level safety case development.
  • Interface directly with clients on technical issues, working closely with the client's engineering team.
  • Lead electrical & electronic concept and/or detailed design activities within a project, meeting the quality standards of Prodrive and/or the client.
  • Technical liaison with internal multifunctional teams and manufacturing partners.
  • Lead the definition and use of suitable functional or analytical tools, including hand calcs where appropriate, to optimise the design of systems.
  • Develop and maintain delivery plans for electrical and electronic system content in the context of wider vehicle integration, programme timing, and manufacturing readiness.
  • Identify and close gaps in system definition, requirements, or integration assumptions as programmes evolve.
  • Electrical & electronic system commissioning, verification & validation activities.
  • Define and execute suitable commissioning plans for electrical & electronic systems within project context (Hands on system debugging and fault finding).
  • Develop and execute appropriate system test cases as part of electrical & electronic system verification & validation.
  • Lead provision of engineering input into the quotation process for new business.
  • Contribute to the strategic development of their department in terms of organisation, process, tools and facilities.
Who are we looking for?
  • General: Strong automotive or motorsport engineering background.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in relevant engineering subject.
  • Ability to bring structure and direction to complex or ambiguous technical problems.
  • Structured systems thinker able to prioritise and progress multiple competing technical issues in parallel.
  • Uses communication to drive alignment and progress, not simply to report activity.
  • Ability to develop and maintain engineering plans that account for technical dependencies, constraints, risks, and programme milestones.
  • Able to identify cross-functional dependencies early and coordinate resolution with relevant teams.
  • Makes informed engineering trade-offs across performance, cost, timing, and risk when definitive information is not yet available.
  • Capable of operating autonomously in a customer-facing environment, using sound engineering judgement to progress work and resolve issues.
  • Provide technical leadership and direction to junior engineers, ensuring clarity of scope, priorities, and expectations.
Electrical & Electronic Systems Engineering:
  • Experience in electrical & electronic systems design/development/integration.
  • Experience in a variety of vehicle architectures and networks (including BEV and HEV).
  • Specification of electrical system requirements developments and design validation.
  • Understanding of CANbus physical and communications layers, including message definition.
  • Familiarity with Functional Safety (ISO26262) standard.
  • Hands on experience in vehicle prototype interfacing, development and fault finding.
Software Tools:
  • Advanced capabilities in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Competent user of industry-standard CAN tools, e.g. Vector CANalyzer.
  • Working understanding of industry-standard calibration tools, e.g. Vector CANape; ETAS INCA.
  • Experience in drawing tools for creation of electrical & electronic system designs (e.g. MS Visio, enterprise architecture, drawio etc.).
  • Experience of diagnostic tools.
Desirable skills/experience:
  • Experience in low carbon powertrain system design & specification.
  • Experience in electrical & electronic systems integration in an Electric and/or Hybrid vehicle environment.
  • Familiarity with Hybrid & EV electrical and physical architectures.
  • Understanding of Hybrid & EV control systems.
  • Familiarity with Fuel Cell electrical systems and powertrains.
  • A working understanding of High Voltage standards and practice.
  • Understanding of broader in-vehicle network technologies including: LIN, Flexray, Ethernet.
  • Familiarity with Matlab/Simulink.
  • Competent user of ETAS INCA and/or Vector toolsuite (CANalyzer/CANape/CANoe).
  • E-CAD systems: Siemens Essentials or Vesys.
