We need a strategic architect with 12–15+ years who defines the architectural vision for BT International’s transformation from traditional telco operations to asset‑light service delivery excellence. You own the strategy for service operations platforms (ServiceNow ITSM/ITOM/AIOps, Netbrain, Entuity, Dynatrace) and managed services delivery systems.
Essential Experience
- Strategic Service Operations Architecture & Leadership: Defining long‑term vision for service delivery platforms including ServiceNow (ITSM, ITOM, AIOps), Netbrain, Entuity, Dynatrace and their role in managed services delivery and operational efficiency.
- Business systems architecture: Defining vision for BAU applications (sales, service, enterprise) and service operations including Lead‑to‑Cash operational processes (Pricing/Design/Quoting/SRM), AI Ops, Service Desk, billing, inventory that optimises legacy systems whilst designing future‑ready capabilities aligned with NaaS‑based operating model.
- Order‑to‑Cash (O2C) operational excellence: Service activation, billing and revenue collection processes for managed services delivery.
- Proven experience creating E2E architectures at scale for service operations with business and operational stakeholders.
- Leads architectural decision‑making and transformation initiatives across service operations domains.
Portfolio Optimisation & Vendor Strategy
- Service operations portfolio optimisation: Making strategic keep/modernise/retire decisions for service delivery platforms based on technical fitness, cost‑effectiveness and alignment with asset‑light transformation and managed services strategy.
- Vendor strategy: Negotiating with service operations platform vendors (ServiceNow, Dynatrace) and enterprise vendors as strategic partners, simplifying IT landscape whilst reducing vendor dependencies and supporting managed services delivery.
Integration Architecture & Transformation
- Systems integration leadership: Establishing approaches that link service operations platforms, BAU applications and NaaS capabilities to support business processes, managed services delivery and operational efficiency.
- Service operations transformation: Leading AI‑driven process automation, billing automation, inventory accuracy improvement programmes that deliver cost‑to‑serve reduction, operational efficiency and improved managed services delivery.
API & Integration Leadership
- Strong expertise in API lifecycle design and integration patterns at scale.
- Expertise in integration patterns (OpenAPI, REST, gRPC, GraphQL) for service delivery.
- Event‑driven architecture leadership with pub/sub and event brokers (Kafka, RabbitMQ).
Operational Excellence & Observability
- Operational excellence architecture: Establishing comprehensive observability, service resilience patterns and operational automation across service delivery systems including metrics, logging, distributed tracing and telemetry.
- Proficient with observability frameworks (Prometheus, ElasticSearch, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Dynatrace) for service operations at scale.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, transaction management and telemetry pipelines for service delivery.
Collaboration & Governance
- Collaboration with Data & AI architects: Leveraging data platforms and AI capabilities for service automation, customer insights and managed services intelligence.
- Architecture governance: Driving design reviews and conformance processes ensuring alignment with enterprise standards, security requirements and transformation objectives.
- Building architecture capability: Mentoring architects who work with service operations, BAU operations and managed services delivery teams.
- Platform engineering alignment: Establishing integration patterns that connect service operations systems with NaaS capabilities whilst maintaining operational stability and supporting managed services delivery.
Highly Desirable Technical Background & Modern Platforms
- Strong engineering background with hands‑on experience demonstrating technical credibility.
- Proficient in backend programming (Python, Java, C++).
- Experienced in data persistence across SQL (Postgres, MySQL), NoSQL (Cassandra, MongoDB) and TSDB (TimescaleDB, InfluxDB, Prometheus TSDB).
Platform Technologies & BSS Vendor Platforms
- Open source workflow engines (Temporal).
- Stream/batch processing (Flink, Spark).
- Test automation: Robot Framework and BDD.
- BSS vendor platforms: Salesforce, Amdocs, Ciena.
- BSS/OSS proficiency: Deep understanding of Product Catalogue, CPQ, SOM, EPC and their interactions.
- Telecom domain knowledge: Understanding of WAN, overlay and security products.
Service Operations & Cloud Architecture
- Extensive telco service operations and managed services architecture experience with demonstrated success modernising operational platforms.
- Experience designing for multi‑cloud, hybrid and on‑prem service delivery environments.
- Skilled in cloud‑native patterns for service operations.
- Cloud architecture (AWS/GCP).
Enterprise Platforms & Vendors
- Strong background with service operations platforms (ServiceNow, Dynatrace, Netbrain, Entuity) and enterprise platforms - can negotiate technical approaches and influence vendor roadmaps.
- API‑first integration architecture: API management platforms, event streaming, microservices patterns in complex service delivery environments.
Telco Domain & Delivery
- Deep telco operations and service delivery domain knowledge with understanding of challenges in transforming mission‑critical service operations systems.
- Product operating model experience: Understanding how architecture enables service delivery team autonomy and managed services velocity.
- Experience building and leading architecture teams focused on service operations and managed services delivery, developing technical leadership capability.
- AI/Agentic strategy for service automation, cost reduction and managed services enhancement.
- Understanding of managed services business models and how operational platforms support service delivery.
- Proven track record defining architectural strategies that enabled system rationalisation, vendor consolidation and platform transformation whilst maintaining service continuity and managed services quality.
