We are looking for a compassionate and reliable Personal Care Assistant to support a female with cerebral palsy in her day-to-day life. This role will involve assisting with personal care, mobility, and positioning needs, as well as offering emotional support when needed. You’ll play a key part in helping E maintain her independence and improve her quality of life.
E is a dynamic and outgoing woman who lives in Selby. She enjoys a busy lifestyle, with a passion for music, films, TV shows, books, and staying connected on social media. E is also an advocate for sharing her experiences of living with cerebral palsy, creating videos and content about her life and her love for books. In this role, empathy and understanding of the challenges associated with anxiety and low mood are key.
Key responsibilities:
- Personal Care Support: Assist E with showering, dressing, and maintaining skin health to prevent pressure sores.
- Moving & Positioning: Provide full support with mobility tasks, including the use of a ceiling track hoist for transfers, a shower chair for bathroom access, and a profiling bed to ensure comfort at night.
- Social & Emotional Support: Offer gentle encouragement, especially when E experiences anxiety or low mood. Assist with social outings and activities, and support her in creating content for her social media platforms.
- Encourage Independence: Help E in achieving greater independence, especially once her new car arrives, and support her in managing her routine with confidence.
Essential Requirements:
- Experience in personal care or healthcare support is preferred but not essential.
- Ability to safely assist with moving and positioning tasks.
- Compassionate, patient, and respectful approach to supporting someone with a disability.
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet E’s changing needs.
- A full, clean driving license is essential & willingness to drive a large mobility van.
- Empathy and understanding of the challenges associated with anxiety and low mood.
- Proactive approach and the ability to adapt to different situations.
- Experience with individuals who have cerebral palsy or similar mobility needs is an advantage.
