This expansion forms part of our long-term ambition to become the undisputed global leader in load measurement, and we are actively strengthening our technical team to support that journey.
As an Electronics & Embedded Systems Engineer within PCM’s advanced engineering team, you will be responsible for driving the electronic intelligence behind our products - developing the hardware, firmware, and embedded technologies that transform precision load cells into fully integrated smart measurement systems that cater to Industry 4.0.
Operating at the intersection of electronics, instrumentation, and product innovation, you will take ownership of projects spanning PCB design, embedded firmware development, communication protocols, and system integration. From developing miniature amplifier circuits, through to supporting the release of wirelessly connected monitoring solutions, your work will directly shape the next generation of PCM technology.
This is a highly practical and innovation-driven engineering role, combining hands-on development work with strong technical problem solving and product ownership. Working closely with mechanical engineers, production, calibration, suppliers and customers, you will support the transition from concept through to prototyping, validation, manufacture, and deployment into demanding real-world applications.
Beyond day-to-day engineering delivery, you will play an important role in advancing PCM’s wider technology strategy - helping to improve product capability, connectivity, build efficiency and footprint as the business looks to Industry 4.0 offerings. Accuracy, creativity, and a strong systems-level mindset will be essential, as your work will involve electronic and embedded technologies.
- Prepare, amend, and maintain CAD models and detailed engineering drawings for load cells and strain gauge installations.
- Produce, manage, and control Bills of Materials (BOMs), specifications, and build instructions for production technicians, to ensure consistency and quality.
- Act as PCM’s electronics specialist, working closely with reputable suppliers to design, develop and test new electronics for integration within our range of load cells.
- Liaise with customers and suppliers via telephone, email, and face-to-face meetings to provide technical support, recommendations, and fault diagnosis.
- Design and 3D print production tooling for mounting or housing electronics.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive technical databases and engineering records.
- Help maintain and evolve internal software tools and automated processes using MATLAB and VBA.
- Implement RS-232, RS-485, MODBUS, CANopen, Ethernet, Wireless and Analog communication protocols to ensure compatibility with client’s test systems, reduce errors in data transfer, and allow for integration with larger automation and control networks.
A genuine passion for engineering and pride in producing high-quality, accurate work, with a strong focus on precision, consistency, and attention to detail. Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage politely, professionally, and effectively with colleagues at all levels, including managers, technicians, customers, suppliers, and subcontractors. Able to prioritise workload effectively and remain organised when working under pressure or to tight deadlines, without compromising quality. Strong organisational and documentation skills, with an appreciation for traceability, controlled processes, and quality systems such as ISO 9001 and ISO/IEC 17025. Comfortable working across multiple projects simultaneously, balancing detailed design work with hands-on technical and customer-facing activities.
