Our client is a dynamic and expanding civil engineering contractor with a turnover of approximately £20 million, delivering high-quality projects throughout the UK.

Working across all major construction sectors and alongside Tier 1 contractors, they undertake projects ranging from £1m to £15m in value.

The Opportunity

Due to continued growth, we are seeking an Estimator / Quantity Surveyor to join the business at its head office in Scunthorpe.

This role will suit either

  • An experienced Estimator/QS with a background in reinforced concrete (FRC) and civil engineering, or
  • A commercially minded individual currently working in a Quantity Surveying, Commercial, Engineering, Site Management, or Project Delivery role who is looking to develop a career in estimating.

Working across a broad range of sectors, you will be responsible for producing accurate and competitive tender submissions, analysing project requirements, and helping secure future work through commercially sound pricing and technical understanding.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for FRC and civils projects across all sectors
  • Analyse tender documents, drawings, and specifications with both commercial and technical insight
  • Price work across multiple construction sectors, adapting quickly to different project types
  • Liaise with suppliers, subcontractors, and internal teams to obtain competitive quotations
  • Identify risks, opportunities, and value engineering solutions
  • Support bid submissions and maintain strong relationships with clients and stakeholders
  • Contribute to the company’s growth by delivering commercially sound and competitive tender responses

About You

We are looking for candidates who possess

  • Previous experience within estimating, quantity surveying, commercial management, or project delivery.
  • Strong commercial awareness and technical understanding of structures and civil engineering works.
  • Knowledge of reinforced concrete frame (FRC) projects would be advantageous.
  • An understanding of UK construction contracts, tendering procedures, and methods of measurement.
  • Excellent analytical, numerical, and IT skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • A proactive and self-motivated approach with the ability to work independently.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organisational skills.
