We are seeking a commercially minded Product Technologist to take ownership of compliance and quality across our Cookware and Electrical categories. Working closely with the Head of Quality Assurance, this role will lead the technical and regulatory management of these core categories, ensuring products are safe, compliant, and aligned to our brand standards, from concept through to post-launch performance. This is a hands-on role within a fast-paced retail environment, combining technical expertise with strong cross-functional collaboration. The successful candidate will also deputise for the Head of QA when required and support wider quality initiatives across the business.

  • Own Category Compliance & Safety
    • Ensure all cookware and electrical products meet UK, EU, and relevant international regulatory requirements.
    • Manage food contact compliance, electrical safety approvals, material declarations, and labelling standards.
    • Maintain robust technical files and ensure audit readiness at all times.
  • Lead Product Testing & Approval
    • Manage testing programmes with accredited third-party laboratories.
    • Review and approve test reports covering safety, durability, performance, and material compliance.
    • Proactively resolve non-conformances and drive timely corrective actions to protect launch timelines.
  • Work Closely with Suppliers
    • Partner with global suppliers to ensure products are manufactured to approved specifications.
    • Validate materials, components, and manufacturing methods (e.g., non-stick coatings, stainless steel grades, heating elements).
    • Support supplier audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Drive Quality Through the Product Lifecycle
    • Write and maintain clear, accurate product specifications.
    • Provide technical input at NPD stage to mitigate risk early and avoid costly rework.
    • Analyse returns and customer complaints to identify root causes and implement improvements.
  • Support Commercial Success
    • Collaborate with Buying, Design, and Marketing to ensure products are compliant, launch-ready, and aligned with brand positioning.
    • Balance regulatory requirements with speed to market.
    • Provide practical, solution-focused guidance to enable confident product decisions.
  • Deputise & Support QA Leadership
    • Act as deputy to the Head of QA when required.
    • Contribute to wider QA projects, process improvements, and system enhancements.
    • Support development of best-in-class quality standards across the business.

About You

You will combine strong technical knowledge with commercial awareness and the ability to operate confidently in a retail-led environment.

  • Experience & Background
    • 5+ years’ experience in a Product Technologist or QA role within consumer goods.
    • Experience in cookware, food contact products, or small domestic appliances highly desirable.
    • Experience working with global suppliers and third-party testing laboratories.
  • Technical Expertise
    • Strong understanding of UK and EU product safety regulations.
    • Knowledge of food contact legislation and electrical compliance frameworks (CE, UKCA, EMC, LVD).
    • Good understanding of materials and manufacturing processes relevant to cookware and electricals.
    • Familiarity with quality systems such as ISO 9001.
