About the Role
We are seeking an outgoing and professional Laboratory Operations Technician to support the day-to-day activities of a busy laboratory environment. Working closely with scientists and operational colleagues, you will be responsible for maintaining laboratory standards, monitoring inventory, supporting laboratory workflows, and ensuring the environment remains safe, clean, and well-organised. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working in a hands-on laboratory setting and takes pride in delivering excellent operational support.
Key Responsibilities
- Laboratory Housekeeping
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organised laboratory environment.
- Monitor consumable stock levels across laboratory workstations and replenish supplies as required.
- Identify stock shortages and communicate procurement requirements in a timely manner.
- Prepare laboratory items for washing and autoclaving, coordinating with external service providers where necessary.
- Support waste segregation and disposal processes, ensuring compliance with laboratory procedures and local regulations.
- Report facilities and equipment maintenance issues and assist with minor repairs where appropriate.
- Ensure laboratory housekeeping standards are maintained at all times.
- Operational and Laboratory Support
- Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Assist with laboratory space optimisation to support changing team and business needs.
- Receive, check, and store incoming deliveries and laboratory materials.
- Support laboratory inventory management activities, including maintaining records within a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Prepare reagents, buffers, and media to support microbiology and serology activities.
- Assist in maintaining health and safety standards by identifying potential hazards and taking appropriate action to report or rectify them.
- Provide general operational support to laboratory teams as required.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum BSc degree in Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Biomedical Sciences, or a related scientific discipline.
- Hands-on experience working within a laboratory environment.
- Understanding of laboratory health and safety requirements and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP).
- Experience supporting operational activities, ideally within a laboratory setting.
- Comfortable working with laboratory inventory systems and stock management processes.
