The job:
As a Cloud Platform Engineer, you will report to the Group Head of IT and Infrastructure and collaborate with all colleagues in the business, including our development teams to help deliver our products.
The role will be joining the platform team focused on our cloud platform environments. The purpose of this role is to ensure our Azure cloud platform is built and supported against best practices. You will work closely with development teams to reduce their cognitive load, enabling them to continually improve our product portfolio.
Here's what you'll be doing:
· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement Azure-based solutions that meet business requirements.
· Create robust and scalable architectures for cloud applications, considering factors such as performance, security, and cost optimisation as well as other none functional requirements.
· Supporting role in the migration to Azure and modernisation of existing applications.
· Provision, configure, and manage Azure resources, including virtual machines, storage accounts, app services and networking components.
· Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform or Azure Resource Manager templates.
· Set up and maintain CI/CD pipelines for Azure applications.
· Automate deployment processes, ensuring efficient and reliable software delivery.
· Integrate database storage solutions
· Diagnose and resolve issues related to Azure services, performance bottlenecks, and scalability.
· Optimise resource utilisation and cost management.
· Implement best practices for securing Azure resources.
· Monitor and address security vulnerabilities, compliance requirements, and access controls.
· Work closely with development teams to understand application requirements and provide Azure-related guidance and solutions.
· Investigation of problems and determining the best solution
· Document architectural decisions, configurations, and operational procedures.
Key skills and experience:
· Understanding cloud computing concepts like Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS).
· Proficiency in using various Azure services, such as Azure Virtual Machines, Azure Storage, Azure Networking, and Entra ID.
· Skills in scripting languages like PowerShell, Python, or Bash to automate tasks and manage Azure resources efficiently.
· Networking: Knowledge of virtual networks, VPNs, load balancers, and other networking components within Azure.
· Implementing security best practices, including identity and access management, encryption, and network security.
· Familiarity with DevOps tools and practices, such as Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure as code (IaC) using tools like ARM templates, Terraform, or Ansible.
· Using Azure Monitor, Azure Log Analytics, and other tools to monitor performance, diagnose issues, and ensure the reliability of Azure services.
· Experience with Azure Managed SQL Instance Database, Cosmos DB, and other database services for managing and optimising data storage.
