An established UK infrastructure and highways organisation is looking to appoint an experienced HR Advisor (Employee Relations) to support a major highways maintenance contract across Birmingham and the wider West Midlands region. This is a varied, operationally focused position with a strong emphasis on employee relations.

You will work closely with managers and employees across multiple depots, providing practical advice, managing sensitive casework and helping to maintain a fair, respectful and legally compliant workplace.

The Role

Acting as a trusted advisor to operational managers, you will manage employee relations matters from initial referral through to resolution. Your caseload will include disciplinary, grievance, capability, conduct, attendance and performance matters. You will plan and conduct impartial workplace investigations, including evidence gathering, interviews and the preparation of clear written reports. You will also coach managers through difficult conversations, support absence and return-to-work processes and encourage early, informal resolution wherever appropriate. Alongside case management, you will maintain accurate and confidential records, identify recurring employee relations trends and contribute to manager training, policy development and wider HR improvement projects.

The Candidate

We are looking for an HR Advisor or Employee Relations (ER) Advisor who can demonstrate:

  • Approximately three years or more of HR advisory or employee relations experience, including complex casework and workplace investigations
  • Strong working knowledge of UK employment law and the confidence to apply it practically
  • Excellent judgement, discretion, impartiality and written communication skills
  • Confidence advising and influencing managers at all levels
  • CIPD Level 5 qualification, an equivalent qualification or current study towards this level
  • Strong organisational and IT skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly between operational depots
  • Experience within infrastructure, highways, construction, engineering, logistics or another operational multi-site environment would be advantageous, although applicants from other fast-paced sectors will also be considered.

Package

Up to 37,500, dependent on experience and qualifications. Company car or car allowance. Pension contributions of up to 10% combined. 25 days' annual leave plus public holidays. Life assurance at four times basic salary. Hybrid working where operational requirements allow. Enhanced family-friendly benefits. Funded professional qualifications and ongoing career development. Employee discounts and benefits platform.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established organisation offering a strong benefits package, professional development and genuine long-term career potential.
